My business generates enough money every month to cover my tier, premium annual plan payment and continues to generate a profit. Am I correct in understanding that I can delete the current payment information from my account without any problem? I can always re-enter it if I ever need to buy lindens. As most things Linden, the Update Your Billing Information page is unclear. It says: ------quote---- Delete If you would like to delete your current payment information, please click this button. PLEASE NOTE: Clicking this button will delete your payment information. You will need to place a new payment method on file before your next billing cycle. ------end quote---- I assume that I don't need anything on file if I have enough dollars in my account to cover any bills.

i'm pretty sure you can click delete and NOT put anything new in, and it will still be deleted even though it tries to force you to before you can move on. just delete, cancel any new prods and refresh - come back in an hour and it should show no billing info.

Thanks 3Ring,
I understand that some places in SL might ban avatars with No Payment Information on File. Beyond that is there any other disavantage?

none that i know of. i have a couple of alts that toodle around the grid with NPIOF and i have never been blockaded from ANY location. ever. you can totally be basic and never put $ into the game and use the grid just like everyone else.
now, i know there are a few mature places that might discriminate based on age verification, but i also have not run into that.

I have an alt that has NPIOF and he encountered only one place that banned NPIOF, that was Neva Naughty Furniture. It looks like they have dropped that now.

A close friend had some credit card fraud activity on his account after joining SL. Since I don't have a need for keeping that information on file with LL I figure I might as well delete it to keep it safe.

Arch, your inworld profile will keep the status of payment info used, even though it is gone.

OK I discovered that there is a big disadvantage to having No Payment Information on File". You can't use the Process Credit function to take your dollars out of LL's account. I had incorrectly assumed I would still be able to send payments to my PayPal account, Not True.
"You must be in full compliance with our Terms of Service to receive any payment through the credit payment process. This includes, without limitation, the requirement to have accurate and complete registration information, including verifiable billing information.
You do not have valid billing information on file.
In order to receive any payment through the credit payment process, you must have accurate and complete registration information on file with Linden Lab, including verifiable billing information.
To process credit on your account, enter billing information here."

From: Misteriosa Foden if i delete the info i will return to NPIOF and lost my age verification? See post no. 7 in this thread. From: Misteriosa Foden Its really dangerous keep that info. Why? If nobody else has access to your account and you keep your password secure... what is the danger in keeping payment info on file?

Hi, Mist Glad to see you here Like I've said you inworld, once you have PIOF in your status you can delete your credit card info and will retain PIOF status, if you are worried about this. I am PIU since may/2007 and never had any problem. Of course, I am very cautious with my password and account, and never log from an unknown computer.

Here: https://blogs.secondlife.com/community/features/blog/2006/09/08/urgent-security-announcement"On September 6 we discovered evidence that an intruder was able to access the Second Life database through the web servers. The exploit was shut down on the afternoon of September 6 when we discovered it. Detailed investigation over the last two days confirmed that some of the unencrypted customer information stored in the database was compromised, potentially including Second Life account names, real life names and contact information, along with encrypted account passwords and encrypted payment information."

Focus here lies on "potentially including" and "encrypted payment information". Exploit was shut down the minute they discovered it. Was there a follow-up that said more about the data compromised?
IMO, giving your payment info is no less secure than paying for any other service on the net. But that's just me.

I doubt I could find the evidence now being that it was put together from several places and linden announcements back at the time. But I remember this incident well and also remember being pretty pissed that the forced Password reset and even users being told about the incident came a bout a week after theft.
