Second Life restraining orders?

Ok ok i know it sounds weird, but what if they existed?

Currently being harassed by someone who hates me for no reason.

aww i know, I'm so nice what did i ever do to this person.

ok but it has gone beyond griefing whenever they see me. As in spreading false information about me, using alts to harass me, and causing me to lose my job.

ok so im a weapons person, and i can make it so they completely hate sl, but i don't want any trouble. and somehow i can see that backfiring on me.

since restraining orders don't exist, and i don't want to get booted myself by fighting them what should i do oh wise ones who usually answer these things.

Since you didn't post what form the actual harrassment is taking that's a little difficult to answer but have you muted them? Filed abuse reports for each harrassment as it occurs? Asked others who may have been effected by the harrassment to also file abuse reports?

But mainly, mute them.

Yes i've done the abuse reports and muting.
nothing happens with reports, and muting them only leads to them using alts

as for the harassments, it goes from verbal, to all the latest scripted combat weaponry systems, orbiting, distorting, spreading terrible rumors that lead to me losing my job.

As a career stalker, I'm strongly against this. (>_<

Restraining orders would only work on people using the Restrained Life Viewer

If there were Restraining Orders in SL, then you'd have to raise a ticket to LL in order to get one.
Given that your ARs seem to get no result, then ,,,,,,, duh!
So if there were such things announced, it would just be a PR exercise. Nothing would actually change.


Just ensure that each new AR references all the previous ones. If an abuse droid actually pays attention one day, they might just twig that there is a pattern,

That way, when you snap and retaliate, and you get immediately banned, you'll have a complete record that you can send to the G-team. They will ignore this in the same way that they ignore ARs, but at least the activity of sending all that stuff to LL will keep you busy.

Hook him up with your least favorite female friend. That way you kill two birds with one stone.

AR every alt and always say in the AR report that it is the same person "abusing the alt system" by constantly creating more just for the sake of griefing you inworld. LL does not like griefers, but they also do not like folks that abuse the alt system specifically for griefing.

Beyond filing ARs and muting, the only thing I can think of when I hear restraining order is "ban lines." But if you aren't a land owner, that might be a bit difficult.

Create an alt for yourself and become another Ava?

Many others have had to do this, unfortunately. It might be the only way to get them off your back.

For that matter, how is it that they can find you so easily wherever you go? I can see them being able to harrass you at your job since they know where you work, but are they following you through the grid? Do you have yourself set that they can find you on the map? If so, turn that off ASAP!

i had someone that tried to do all that junk to me..my friends know me and what kind of person i have been to them..
the best thing to do is mute them and show you are above them by letting the truth come out on it's own..most times the one gabbing is the one that gets backed up in thier own lies and sooner or later cuts their own throat when something doesn't line up..
let Karma sort it out..if you start going at each other is when everyone gets confused on who to believe..

EDIT: oh i almost forgot the most important part..AR every single offense they commit twards you..sooner or later they will go away one way or another...by choice or by no choice..

i have my groups hidden now, but im not leaving them just for one person

Get someone who knows how to harass and find things out. It's amazing what can be done on SL if you know what to do. I don't have the know-how, but there are people out there who can really make SL a BAD place to be for someone.

About the only way to get away from a stalker is to get another account/avatar, let people you trust know you're the same person and why you changed, and be careful using streaming media or following web requests from objects in-world so they can't cross-check by IP address and figure out your new identity that way.

first step: send an abuse report for every seperate incident, and keep doing it (even if it reaches into the 100's) the more the better, LL will soon notice

if the first step fails use live chat in support, if you are not premium send loads of support tickets until you get a responce. if that fails buy the linden tracker & IM every linden online with a long list of your problems.

if that fails you then have every right to turn on him and make his SL life hell, sometimes to beat a dog you have to play ITS game.

here is what you do, this is tested and works in real life also. follow him. it is the last thing he would expect, start following him where ever he goes, dont say anything just follow him and dont let him out of your sight, if he manages to get away send him loads of love IM's, followed quickly by hate IM's, then back to love again. then start acting completely insane. he will soon leave you alone. he will be the one muting you, 100% garantied

Worst case scenario (it is very unlikely) is you get banned for a week (at most) but hey at least he'll never bother you again and when u r unbanned you can get back to your normal SL life

sinse you're into weaponds and stuff like that i'm surprised you havent thought of getting yourself one of the many different kinds of Defensive huds. If you dont already have one get it, the good ones are usualy a bit expenseve but well worth the money invested on it, beleve me when i say they work very well.

If you already have a Defensive hud, keep every shield it has active at all times, a good shield will keep any griefer from affecting you with any of his tricks and eventualy they will get tired of not being able to freeze, cage, orbit or any such stuff. the more that person sees, he/she is affectiong you the longer they will continue to harrass you.

And of course do continue to send in the AR and keep a copy of each and everyone you send in for your records.

But what if you had them on mute to avoid them and they used their insim authority to ban you from the sim and the only way you could get access to the sim back was to agree never to put them on your ban list again?

How do you find out their specific alts, specifically if you have an abusive gang mentality of crazed stalkers as well as knowing who they are in real life?

That's not always true that the longer you ignore your abusive stalkers, the more they will ignore you. It's not true in my case as I've been harassed, libeled, and abused online by one fan group who have a website on the internet. They have been stalking me for 3 1/2 years, mostly with my ignoring them. So, it does not work.

Also, can you set me up with this shield thing in world?

If it involves scripts, I don't know how to write those and I'd need someone to walk me through the process of writing scripts. Any defense classes or anything on how to do this?

And I wouldn't worry about a SL inworld job. How about losing about $200,000 worth (minimum) of original graphics because they ruined two of your computers? Not to mention all those years of work. Original graphics meaning original altered art works I had plans to publish, such as calendars which could have been worth a lot more. One never knows how a calendar will sell along with the other projects I've completely lost which could have been upwards of one million dollars or more? It's impossible to know the actual value, but the years lots of one's original work is not easy to handle. I also lost all my original fairy paper doll graphics which I planned to publish.

Re the groups thing. Leave the group with the avatar they know about, but join with an alt. You'll still get the group notices and things but the stalker won't be able to know when you're online. If the group isn't open enrollment then speak to the owner privately explaining what's going on. I'm sure they'll be happy to let your alt join.

If the group's a small one and you think they may be browsing the members to find newly created avatars that might be your alt, consider leaving the group. I know it sucks but you can always rejoin it when things calm down.

If you truly want to keep them out of your life play an alt, only tell your very closest buddies, and avoid your old haunts for a while.

Then just give it some time. I know it's unfair they're forcing you into 'hiding' but sometimes it's worth doing this just for the peace and quiet you get. Life really is too short for that much drama.

SL is just like RL, sometimes a fresh start is blissful. Your closest real friends will remain with you as you move on to new horizons.

Restraining orders exist in RL but, to be honest, they don't really work all that well. I can't imagine they'd be anymore useful here either.
