Subdividing land - Prims supported

What happens if I subdivide land, creating a parcel that already contains more prims than that parcel can support?

And, just hypothetically now, what if I already did that? Just supposing for a minute that I did.... should I get back there quick and fix it, before something explodes?

Where's the Kaboom? There was supposed to be an Earth shattering Kaboom. :p

You should be fine. As long as you own enough land in the sim to support your total number of prims you can distribute them on your parcels anyway you like. If you sell the other parcel, that is when you will run into trouble.

If the parcels are on the same sim, and owned by the same person, then there's no need to panic. The important figure is simulator usage, which shows the total amount of prims you can have in that sim.

So for example, you have a 1024 and split it into 2 512's. Now the 1024 can support 234 prims, the 512's can support 117 prims. However 2 512's = 1024.

Ergo, you can have 234 prims split as you wish on your 2 x 512s, 200 on one, 34 on the other.

Did I lose you? It's late!!!!

As Ciaran said, as long as it's all in your own name, you'll be fine. The problems begin if/when you deed any the land to a group or sell it to someone else.

Thank you all. All the land belongs to my group, so I'm good. Problem defused.

So.... no Kaboom. Sorry Nimue :(

I did this once when I was getting the hang of group land and group land permissions.

I cut a small piece of land out of a big group parcel and subdivided it. Then I changed the ownership back to myself. The kaboom was not earth shattering, but it blew a neat hole in two levels of mall, where my small subdivided parcel found itself with some 100 more prims than it could support.

Took me a little while to put everything back, after that oops.

:)
