I had a black cat avtar, when i took it out of the box and put it on it shrank my current avtar to a small boy and when i got to appearance to put it back the way i was under shape it says i do not have permission to change myself, i could do it before i opened the cat. Does anyone know how i can get back to normal?

your avatar came with a shape to make it fit inside the cat. It's no-mod.
Just put a different shape on. The permission was granted when you "wore" the shape.

I assume that is what you were doing. the the search window of your inventory, do a search for shape, and then right click on the shape to "wear". That should replace your cat avatar shape.

It probably has changed; you just need to tell the computers (the server and your computer) to look a little more closely. Do a Character rebake, which is Ctrl-Shift-R (I think, not inworld.)
When you are looking at your inventory, in the white text field, type in the word "worn" and hit enter. This should show you exactly what you are wearing. What does it say for the shape?

Is it another shape and? skin issue? Have you tried both?

"Can't change appearance until clothing and shape are loaded." Was that the error you were getting? Unless the grid is having problems, a clear cache and relog will help, as long as you remember that relogging into the same sim you were on before doesn't do you any good since it could be the sim that's having problems so when you relog, relog into a *different* sim. Any one of the water sims like Hahne, Kara, etc make good candidates for a lag- and problem-free to log back on to .

Heh, reminds me of my early newbie days. I found a freebie avatar shape and tried it out, and found I didn't like it at all. And then...PANIC! ...until I figured out how to get rid of the damn thing.
Yeah, replace it with another. But when you don't know that yet - YAAAAUUUGGGHH!!!

I remember my first day; I got stuck with that awful prim Nightclub Guy hair on at the same time as having the generic avatar hair on aswell. This was back in the days when Help Island should really have just been called "Free Stuff You Won't Understand How To Use Island" and was no help at all (or so I found).

My favorite was the wearing of the prim box.. on the head. Before they changed the prim's default wear position to the hand. Ah, the loss of a rite of passage.

When I started, I had the worst problem on Orientation Island of all places. There's a part where you can pick a new shape and replace yours. I figured since I had the female shape, I'd try the male. I couldn't figure out how to change it back! It automatically changed your shape, and I didn't know you could replace shapes yourself, so I ended up doing it in edit appearance mode by clicking on "female", and made her female again, but it bugged the heck out of me to see "male av" as the name of my shape! Yeah, orient *this* ya freakin' island!

Biggest newbie laugh I ever got was when I ended up with a case of Budweiser where my head ought to have been. No only that but, from my camera angle at the time, it actually looked like my friend did a perfect double take when I said "hey, check this out".

It's not a shape but rather an animation played from an AO built into one of the pieces of the cat. You need to remove the prim pieces of the cat, you will return to normal size. The Animation will fold your Avatar in and over itself to make it very compact.
