Hi,
Some questions about SIM names:
1. Is there a tool somewhere to verify if a sim name is available ?
2. Is it possible to reserve sim names ?
3. Has he SIM name some rules: A-Z ; 0-9; special characters; no linden in it, ... ?
4. If i have a sim with the name "MySIM" is it allowed by somebody else to name his sim "MySIMb" for exemple (allmost simular names) or is there a protection ?
Thanks for your answers.

when I bought candyland, I just did a map search in world. I dunno how accurate that is though.

The map search is an imperfect tool for this; it will tell you what names have been chosen over the years but won't tell you if one has been chosen for a sim about to be deployed (i.e. picked in roughly the past week or so). 2. No. 3. Yeah, I think it's A-Z 0-9 and spaces, plus it has to start with a letter. Also no X rated names, no city names or suchlike, and for that matter they reserve the right to 'approve' the name, so no funny stuff. 4. There are no protections beyond what you might be able to press in a first life courtroom. Of course, anyone naming their sims similar to someone else's would be immediately identified as one of the sleaziest wankers on the grid for all time. Which may actually not change anything, depending who did it... 5. good luck!

To add to Desmond's response, for item 1 the only real way is to go into the sim purchase process (but don't complete it) and see if it accepts the name you want. And for 3) if I recall you are limited to three words (I believe) and a specified number of characters (which I forget - but you can find out by taking a dry run at the sim purchase tool...I tried a little while ago but it seemed to be down).

It's a maximum of three words with a total of no more than 20 characters I believe.
There are some database queries you can script for which might return info on a sim name which is taken but not yet deployed on the map... when I got my 2nd island I did a database query against the name and it showed up in the database a full 2 or 3 days before it was deployed... I think as soon as they go from 'processing' to 'pending' is when the name goes into the database.
