I've seen people ask, in various forums, how to make Chrome open slurls with Emerald when you click on them. I've at last found out how to do it, at least in Windows XP, and thought I would share the information here.

*** Warning***
This involves editing the Windows registry!

Editing the registry is, at least in my experience, not as scary as some people believe, but you can inadvertently do a lot of damage by editing the wrong thing, and I take no responsibility for damage or nervous breakdowns that may occur.

What I did was followed the instructions at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/136393about how to edit the Windows Registry, paying particular attention to the section "How to Modify Registry Entries" and how to avoid doing anything I might later regret.

Specifically, what I did was scroll down the left-hand panel in the Window, until I located the sub-folder HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\secondlife\shell\open\command. I selected that, and then, in the panel on the right, selected "default" by left-clicking it, right clicked that and chose "modify" and, in the little window that appeared, I selected the contents of the Value Data field and replaced it with

"C:\Program Files\Emerald Viewer\Emerald.exe" --channel "Emerald Viewer" --settings settings_emerald.xml -url "%1"

(including the opening and closing quotes). I OK-ed that, closed the Register Editor, and that was that. Now when I click on slurls in Google Chrome, SL opens with Emerald.

Hope this is of some help.

Yes, some people fear it. My first week on my current job I had to edit it to fix an issue. My boss's reaction to my editing the registry was priceless (especially since I am in IT). :)
