Just like Goofy & Pluto, I've never really considered myself a furry... rather, a cartoon charachter :D

Then again, aren't we all cartoon charachters? :p

I always thought it was more about the mindset of the individuals involved and not so much about "outsiders'" perceptions.

If an Anubis costume wearing avatar tells me that he is a furry, then so be it. It's not for me to decide, anymore than it's up to me to decide what type and/or degree of BDSM activities makes someone a "true" BDSMer.

There's already enough of that sort of snobbery going on within those sectors themselves without me trying to impose my own perceptions from the outside.

I typically don't call myself a furry because of the negative stigma I mentioned in a previous post :P

That would be the "don't tick anybox" option :)

Well, a furry character is simple to define: an anthropomorphized animal.

This makes only Anubis (the whole jackal thing) and Goofy (by virte of being a dog) furries.

Nekos, as much as you don't want to hear it, AREN'T furry. One of the most common traits of a creature described above is they keep their fur/feathers/scales, as well as facial characteristics. This is so common, in fact, that it's become the de facto standard when considering what is, and what isn't, a furry. As nekos do not have either, they do not qualify under that standard.

Goofy and Pluto are not cartoon characters. They are dominant and submissive, or should I say top and bottom, since they are both (apparently) males and Goofy forces Pluto to walk on a leash.

I have my own classification system. If it looks furry and cute they it's a furry ...and I get out my shotgun.

If it looks like a fox i run away as they are spawned from satan (still recieving tharapy for childhood 'fox' issues)

Everything else is cool and i'll stop for a chat.

Here's one - I got a honey bee avatar from Grendel's. Since bees technically ARE fuzzy (which could equate to "furry";), would it be considered a furry? I mean, I talk and stuff, so I'm anthropomorphic in a sense - even though I walk on all sixes in that av.

i beg to differ, as i have seen several "neko"s with the morphed facial features. they have the face of a cat and the body of a human - tails and ears sometimes even paws of a cat - but they are definitely at least partially furry..
MEOW MEOW MREOW ( MEANS I PROTEST) LOL - flicks my definitely furry butt and wags tail in your face. just cause im humanish.. doesn't mean i don't have fur - its called an imagination people.. pull em outta the inventory once in a while (if the lindens actually stop locking you out or misplacing it that is)
not to mention several of us - when not working in strip clubs trying to make a L or 2 to keep a roof over our heads enjoy running around sl as a "full cat - aka 100% furry" so my guess is ( based on actual friends that turn 100% furry - at least 50% of nekos turn furry and at least 25% of the remaining wish they could afford a full decent furry look)

tugs on my whiskers - seeee they dont come off.. ok well maybe they do but its definitly a facial feature of "cat" ..

<---the Egyptologist sez: Of course Anubis is a furry, as are his pals, Bastet, Seth et al. Not too sure about any of the snake headed Egyptian gods tho. They're not exactly that much covered in fur. Or bug-headed Khepri.

Ask ten Furries "What is Furry" and you'll probably get 11 different and incompatable answers. It's sort of like asking Pagans what is "Pagan". It's a very personal interpretation of a rather broad topic.

true

for the most part folks tend to stick to the anthropomorphic animal description from my experience...regardless of the lifestyle of the person behind the av, or if they have a "furry fetish".

1 thing I haven't heard any furry dispute is that Nekos are not furries, but hybrids. Thin line there I guess, since I have a friend with a prim cat head, human body w/ white goth human skin (matches the head) & a fuzzy tail.

If you took the fuzzy tail and the head off, she would just have the goth skins though, so instant "human" I guess.

...then again, I have seen a lot of self-proclaimed "furries" that are pretty much the same in that case. Take away the prim head & tail, slap on a human skin, & no more furry...so I guess some folks who call themselves Nekos (especially now that it looks like an increasing trend) with full-body "fur skins" could be considered furries...hell if I know.

I don't consider myself furry...we're more like 'cousins,' IMO.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

You know, technically, furries aren't 'real' either...

What you said.

Goofy and Anubis might come closest, but they're also, um, Goofy and Anubis.
