Not sure if this is the place to ask, but my puter crashed and is being rebuilt, in the meantime im using an OLD OLD laptop with no photo editing tools at all. Does anyone know of a photo editor that is small, just does a few things and doesnt have all the bells and whistles of Paint or PSP ? I just want to do a little cropping or maybe color changing.

Any suggestions would be great

not sure how much space gimp takes but maybe look into that

you can see more posts about gimp in the texture forums from folks who use it

not sure of the url, so just search GIMP

good luck

I agree also, GIMP is awesome I use it a lot, the user interface may confuse you at first if you are used to Paintshop Pro but its worth perservering with.

It might be worth pointing out that GIMP has more bells & whistles than PSP, not less. If simpler program is what you're after, I might suggest Paint.net. It's also free.

Not that there's anything wrong with GIMP (except the interface). It's a great program (again, except for its interface). It just doesn't seem to fit the bill for what you were asking for is all.

Also, can I assume your mention of Paint was a typo? Paint is a Windows accessories program, which has virtually no bells & whistles at all. You can't get simpler than that.

I guess my endorsement of GIMP was based on the fact that the OP might think that a more fully featured program may not run well or fit on their aging laptop. My experience of GIMP is that it has always run well on virtual any old thing I have tried it on and consumes only a modest amount of space. Of course they can try it for free and if they are not happy they can try something else.

However to be fair you are right Chosen, the OP did specify few bells and whistles, and I have no recommendations as I do not use any simpler program.

Paint.NET is easier to use than GIMP. It' free and it comsumes less space on your hard drive. For basic cropping and color altering GIMP is a little involved where Paint.NET is not.

Nobody is saying otherwise Peggy, just I did not know about Paint.NET before now but I do know that whilst GIMP has a steep learning curve, it is worth it in my opinon and I have already stated that it works well on pretty much everything. The OP may find Paint.NET fits more to their needs however.

I use GIMP...........you are preaching to the choir. :)

But, the user said she wanted a basic picture editor........and GIMP is anything but basic. Paint.NET can be gotten a hold of in a few minutes.........took me months to be able to use GIMP. I wasn't talking down about GIMP.......ask Chosen. LOL

Lol you are misunderstanding me, I didn't know about Paint.NET and so could not recommend it or anything else anything simpler than GIMP. I didn't say you were talking GIMP down.
Besides simplicity is relative, for basic features I found GIMP to be very easy to use within minutes.

EDIT: The OP did in fact indicate that she was happy with the recommendations despite that we did point out the user interface and the learning curve - indicating it might be more fully featured than she requested.
