I want to sell some "business in a box" things... but I heard that some things (like skins) were obviously stolen.
How will I know which items were really meant for resell?
Or can anyone give me examples which things I can sell safely?
(excuse my english) :)

Very many BIABs have been stolen from their original creators. Many can be instantly identified as the same products, over and over. I would never recommend to anyone to start or use a BIAB. :o

I think there were some older threads here in this forum about the skins in question, but I'm not sure. I do know that some of the "business in a box" items are now available for free at the NCI Centers. You might want to go to one of the NCI Centers and take a look at the freebies there.

You also should go to the "SL Consumer Skills Class";(EVENTS > category > Education) , I found it very helpful. You can ask about this topic there too and get solid information.

If you get a BIAB the odds are slim you wont get stolen items. There are some stores that do sell their own items as a BIAB at their locations. I can't recall which ones, but if you they would be safest for you to do.

You can't. The safest course is to assume it's a scam, unless all items in the box are created by the person selling the box. And even then, there are ways they may have ripped the stuff off and stuck their name on it.

Buying a BIAB is like buying a machine from a guy in an alley that he says can make real money. He tells you that by just feeding pieces of paper into it, you can produce genuine $50 bills, and 'demonstrates' this for you. Then he asks you to pay him $100 for it.

So you ask him, "If it does what you say, why don't YOU just sit there and feed paper into it? Wouldn't you make more money?"

Dead silence on their end is the typical response... Because, like with the BIAB, if it really WAS a good money maker, they WHY DON"T THEY DO IT THEMSELVES?

The answer is... because they can make more by selling a worthless bundle of stolen goods to some new person who doesn't think to ask that question.

learn to build. Ivory tower good place to start. Seems many come in and immediately want to start selling and not even what they built or designed or a service they perform. This to me is bordering on rude and I am trying to be polite :-). Create some quality by learning first then sell what you've learned.

You would be lucky to find Anything in a business in a box deal that was legitimate to sell.
The only real way to find out in your case would be to contact every single creator of each
item in the box. Not the creator of the box but the items that are in it.

If you plan on selling anything that you did not create, the thing to to is make sure that the
creator has given permission to do so. In most cases you would want to be at the very least
splitting the sales price with them.

And this is not just the polite thing to do it is the law!

The best way to make money from a BIAB is not to sell the contents of the biab in a store. The best way is to turn around and sell the whole BIAB to other people and undercut the original BIAB seller. I mean if you look at the whole thing you can see who makes the most money in the BIAB business.

If its not stolen its probably a collection of freebies which really isn't any better. I hate @sshats that try to sell freebies to people that don't know any better.

Referral Vendors
03-03-2008 07:38
You can set up a shop with referral vendors of things that you like. There are a number of creators (Aubretech - spelling, Hippo, etc.) who provide referral vendors so that you get a cut of whatever gets sold from your vendor. I don't know how much money you'd make, but the only investment would be rental space and your time sourcing out appropriate creators.

Otherwise, I concur, making and selling your own creations is fun too. As for BIAB -- only the new residents get duped and it only inspires anger in others (including duped new residents who realize later they paid for stolen or freebie items).

Good luck.

Those places that you're referring to Bradley are known as "affiliates", not BIAB. I sell for UK Couture, KA Designs, Sensual Designs, WRONG, Serina Lacava Collection and Bailers Outfitters - all are "affiliates" or "authorized resellers", not BIAB. JCNY has affiliates as well, very pricey program though.

I sell a nursery set with alot of pieces in it as full permissions. But its different in the respect that you do it yourself. You have to textures the pieces and add the scripts I've added in the box.

I also have living room "business" sets where there are like 20 copies of each room in the box so you get 80 sets that have mod rights so you can texture them differently and have even more sets.

Some of the stuff out there are in those trash cans and lucky chairs for free. So becareful on what you purchase.

Only BiAB I might want to buy if I had 10k to spare was this clothing psd file clothing kit I saw at slexchange to recolor and re-texture because while I draw and make certain art images well I really, really suck with certain things like seams.
But I use it for educational purposes and I probably wouldn't sell it but spending anything like 10000L right now is bit hard on me especially if I don't know if items were stolen.
I would think if someone had good proven track record and good business sense it would be better to help those of us who don't but are creative don't want to manage business...then spend it on BIAB

Thank you. I'll try and remember that. It helps to keep the legitimate ones separate from the ones that aren't.

One of the most famous BIABs is the box withmore than 140 flexi dresses. This collection was given to the community by the designer when she left SL. Manny not so nice people sell the whole collection as a BIAB or single dresses for over 100 L$. If you see a dress the name of which starts with "New AS", it's from that collection. You can find the free box at SYD or in my station if you're interested.

Other creators like Ronja did sell reseller boxes, but since every reseller tries to sell them cheaper than everyone else they ended up in the 0L Resell Shop. I asked her and she allowed me to offer her collection for free in my help station.

In short: You can't tell. Some of the stuff in the reseller boxes was given to the public by the creator as a freebie and is now sold, some could be real reseller goods, some may bestolen goods. As advised here, better don't sell that stuff.

Sell affliates or your own stuff.
