Well, I've finally decided to get myself a little 512 piece of land. I decided I'd like a nice temperate look, or a snowy one (really, anything but the usual tropical theme), and I'm having myself a bit of trouble. Can any of you fine users suggest a place with a different "environment", possibly one without USD tier fees (or is it just wishful thinking to keep my expenses purely L$)?

I would use the map and zoom out. There is a large section of the older continents that are snowy. Zoom in on that section and look for 512 parcels for sale there. If you are paying for membership, and don't want any additional fees, then all you should purchase is 512. _____________________

I can't help you with a suggestion of where to look, but I will point out one thing you should be aware of: Some estate owners change the terrain textures to 'snowy' around this time of the year with the intention of reverting it to tropical/grass or whatever after Xmas. So, if you decide to rent/'buy' in a private estate with snowy textures, and you want 'snowy' all year round, it's something you worth checking with the estate owner about. |

I'd use the map, but my laptop and connection aren't the best, and all I get is a mass of blue with some green dots on it.

For the snowy region on the maingrid, if you go to 'Orelle' sim, that's pretty much in the middle of a snowy region which extends in every direction for 5-10 sims. As Cristalle pointed out, if you are only after a 512m2, the 512 land allowance you get with premium is probably your best bet. |

If you get a land next to a protected area, that's a nice spot.

A friend of mine lived in Blacktail. That was a snow sim. Start there and surrounding sims are also snow.

I'd use the map, but my laptop and connection aren't the best, and all I get is a mass of blue with some green dots on it. This is not a problem of using a laptop. You are zoomed out too far. Open the map zoomed in to the max. Back off no more than three "clicks". Islands will still show that way. Only the mainland continents will show with a greater zoom-out level. Be sure to check the "land for sale" box in the upper right corner of the map. That shows land for sale as bright yellow. Small parcels will have a "price tag" symbol. Click on those to see size and price. Larger parcels you have to tp to, and click on the ground to learn the prices/sizes. Toggle the "land for sale" checkbox to see the configuration of shoreline/islands. before you tp, so you don't land in the water. This also lets you see if there are buildings on the parcel. They may or may not be included in the sale, of course. BTW, Island estate tier is usually paid in Lindens, not USD. (There are exceptions) |

Thank you all for the answers.
I got myself a nice piece of land for cheap, since it's near some ad farms (I can live without a view). Sadly, no snow. But it's a temperate theme, so no tropical stuff either. |

Hey I was checking your place out yesterday. Great build. I'll point anyone there in the future who says there's nothing nice on the mainland. It changed my outlook. I certainly get a shock when I venture out into the rest of the mainland, especially the stuff that comes up in the first few pages of search. I forgot what a jumbled ugly mess the mainland can be. It's nice to just see Heart Palms as you pan around instead of M.D.'s signs. But I agree, Tropical is overdone. Next time around I will probably do a hamster bondage sim and rent out little 16m plots for miniature dungeons. _____________________

'Nother quick question; what's the difference between a skybox and, say, just editing your house so it's floating at an appropriate height?

'Nother quick question; what's the difference between a skybox and, say, just editing your house so it's floating at an appropriate height? technically.. none.. though skyboxes normally are a bit less extravagant than some of the 'normal' houses I've seen, and/or more futuristic. _____________________

Goodie. I won't feel like a goober for doing that, then. My partner (before that happened though) had a wonderful gothic style house on her land when I built my original club (Wow... looking back it was crap...) and she just floated it up to around 700m to avoid the large building.... _____________________
