The value of the $US dollar is sinking fast.
One year ago in SL For every US dollar, I paid 1.17 Canadian
ex: last year One sim for $2500US would have cost me in Canadian dollars $2925 --------------- Today $US Dollar=Canadian Dollar --------------- Q- What was the exchange rate for your country 1 year ago? exchange rate today?

If one really wants to know this, pick up a recent copy of The Economist and look at the last page. In broad strokes, the US dollar has been managed downward against most major currencies, slightly brightening the balance-of-trade figures (although the yen has almost kept pace). In contrast, the Canadian dollar has risen against most currencies (it was actually 1.11 a year ago), as have many currencies backed by natural resource exports. (The Norwegian krone, for example has risen against the US dollar by half-again as much as has the Canadian dollar.)

Eventually the whole world will have just one currency, it may take another 200 years but it will happen.

I know that a pound now buys me almost $US 2, which is quite a bit more than it did a year ago.
The euro has also reached an all-time high against the dollar and buys over $US 1.40.
This may almost offset the extra VAT I'll be paying, but it won't last.

From: Alan Bamboo I guess that was my real question, with the value of the american dollar sinking, are you still, even with the VAT, actually still paying less than americans for SL ??? It's all relative, Alan. The cost of living is higher and wages tend to be lower over here in Euro land than in the US, so the raw numbers of price need to be weighed against income, etc. Once you figure the cost of premium & tier for US citizens against Euro citizens in that context you'll most likely find that SL works out 'less expensive' in relative terms for US citizens. OK, it's only a hunch on my part but generally prices tend to be much higher over here in Euro land.

Last time I did a little reading on this (which admittedly was several months ago) the median house price in the UK was twice as much as the median house price in the US, and that's in *real* terms i.e. If the median house price in the states was US$250k (plucked out of thin air), the median house price in the UK would be £250k which is roughly US$500k. And, it is worth pointing out that your median american property is also going to be a lot larger than your median UK property, too.
That's just one indicator which gives an idea, though the situation is obviously a lot more complicated than any particular comparison like the one I have made.
