returning Resident! Lost!! Eeek!

Hey all!

I am a returning resident from way back! Well 2 years I think!! Have a weekend free and thought I would venture in to see how much SL has changed e.t.c...

Anyway..I have forgotten where all my fave skins and stuff can be brought I see Abyss only does one female type now? and no Naughty skins anywhere now?

Also which AO's does every one prefer? What is your fave? I am really struggling of where to start looking first again!

Many of the places you remember will be long gone. The most common open source AO would probably be the ZHAOII, which is free, but you can get the new emerald viewer which has a built in AO, not to mention other useful add ons such as a very complete radar.

The Forum Cartel is still in existence and the Hangout is still there -- search for the Allana sim and the Hangout is down by the water next to the Corra sim.

One of the biggest changes you'll see is that we now have PG, Mature, and Adult and all Adult must be on the new Zindra continent or on Private Estates and can only be accessed by accounts that have payment info on file or have gone thru the Aristotle Age Verification process.

Oh, and since you have been gone about 2 years -- the change in building objects that has occurred is we now have a type of Sculpty object. As you wander and see grey blobs that eventually turn into objects --- those are sculpt objects.

Ahhh nice to see the lag and getting kicked out still happens! Now I feel at home! lol

Would you believe that they actually managed to really increase performance a lot and in the last 3-6 months have managed to take us backwards about two years in that regard? We do, however, have far fewer grid outages than we had two years ago - so I guess that is the good to offset the sucky lag that has returned.

I suggest not getting the AO everyone else is using.

Search for something original.

I get my AOs all from a Japanese Sim I know of. Since I don't speak Japanese, am not Japanese, and don't care much for Anime or the other typical paths to Japanophilism that westerners go for , this means that in the places I tend to go, I'm on an AO I never see on anyone else.

Do something like that. Step outside your normal territory when AO shopping, so you can land on something not being used by the crowd around you.

Unless you want to be just another bland piece of the background noise.


For skins, I suggest a similar tactic. Get something different.

For shape, get some modifiable, and modify it - or make a wholly original one like I've done.

I like the classical architecture, but not as much as I like that of Korea or China - but it ends up in my builds for lack of good variety in SL. However that's about the extent of my interest there - so yeah, in my crowd, the AO I went for lets me really stand out.

The level of freebies has gone way up in the past couple of years.

For skins, the old RaC or Raspberry and Cow is now LAQ (aka laqroki).
The Body Politik has a web site where you can build your own custom skin.
All the old Sin Skins are $10 each and still some of the best painted skins you can find.

It isn't the AO that will make you blend in or stand out, but the actual animations that you choose to load into it. Nobody can tell from one person to the next what AO someone is using.

If you're looking for Aja Sinister's Jadzia skins (which used to be at Abyss) they've moved to a quite well-hidden vendor at Body Doubles.

Quite correct. But it's a good suggestion to shop Japanese sims for interesting animations to put in an AO--often at quite reasonable prices. They sure beat the hell out of... (uh, let's try to stay out of trouble)... that place with the horrid "Sprinkles".
