do you know of a way to override the "home" destination currently set to my acount? I would like to set to to a place I don't own and don't plan to join the group that owns it, but the place is open to the public (I can tp and fly to it whenever I want, and so just about anyone else)

I was thinking perhaps ti could be done with somthing like SLProxy intercepting the tp home request and replacing it or somthing (but I dunno how to do that)

You can "set home" to any location that has that permission enabled in the land settings. Just go there and under "World" menu set home. It doesn't intercept your already set home location...it replaces it.

I thought group owned land would only allow people in the group to set thei home there....

When I try to set Home at a random spot, other than Linden infohubs, or appropriate group land, I get a message saying I can't.

This is the error message it produces: i

I think it will let me set home to group owned mainland land if I'm a member of the group.

From my experience, non-premiums accounts are limited to info centers.

However, and this tip is useless unless your creating and alt, helping a newbie syill on tutorial island or crating an alt, the first place you arrive on mainland for free accounts, automatically becomes your home. For most people this will be an info hud as thats where the TP boards on the islands send you.

I have a few alts and TP'd them all to my home plot when created and that is now their home.

I have not ever been able to set home in a location other than that I own, or am a member of the group which allows it, or it is linden infohub places

creating a landmark on the other hand is a setting in the land options, could it be you are mixing up the two?

if you just want the location for logging in, use log in at last location, and always log out there

You can join the group temporarily, set home to a parcel it owns, then leave the group. The home position should stay set to the same place.

Start up Second Life with Command Line parameters, like shown here:
http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Pre_1.20_Client_parameters
I'm not sure how it works exactly for that parameter, but it's worth a shot :)

Do you mean just at login or do you mean even when you do TP-home when you're already logged in?

For just at login, others have suggested ways to do that. Using an slurl would probably work, too.

For after you've logged in, I think you'll need either something like slproxy or a hacked client to do it. Your home location is stored on the server side, not on your local disk, so you'll have to catch the "TP home" message and swap it for a "TP to some place" message.

both if possible, otherwise just after logged in

that is what I described in the first post, isn't it? iit would also be good if the client or somthing detected when I tp'd to the point current set as home (like when a script tp me there, or when I die in combat enabled land), and sent a tp request to the place I would like to be the replacement of my home location, though just having it work with control-shift-H would already be quite welcome
