What are the best selling scripted items in SL? I know that clothes, hair, etc. are big, but what about some scripted items?
Skidz Primz is one I know I've heard of from more than one person. Are there popular animation overriders etc?
Thanks!

Probably the mystitool HUD, but i`d be surprised to see anyone "take business" from her.

Scripted items are a slightly odd market, because unlike more artistic items,
a) customers see them as substituting for each other; and b) a lot of the "quality" of the product is invisible to customers (eg, optimisation, communication structure, lag reduction etc.) Because of this, it's a tricky market to get into and stay in, and there are constant fears that the open competition will eventually lead to a broken market (eg, somebody who isn't interested in earning money from SL selling a highly sophisticated multigadget for L$1 each) As for the most popular items: The Multi Gadget and MystiTool are most well known as combined gadgets. Multi Gadget came first, but both seem to be popular now. Building aids: Skidz Primz and Prim Docker are both popular and have similar functions. There's also the Texture Aligner script, which I'm not sure if there is any competition for (yet). Scripted vendors do not generally seem to be very popular unless they are networked, possibly because there are good free alternatives in this field. The two most notable names at the moment are JEVN and HippoVend. HippoVend is much newer. Guns and weapons are - possibly sadly - hugely popular as a market. I've never been interested in them so I don't really know anything about the details. Sex-related gadgets have to have a mention! The most obvious popular categories: scripted genitalia and scripted collars. The most well known are XCite!, and the Amethyst Collar, respectively. The collar market seems to have more competition than the genitalia market, probably because of the absense of network effect, but the market leaders in both markets are decidedly fierce and they are notoriously difficult to break into. |

Don't forget SexGen beds and animation overriders.

Don't forget SexGen beds and animation overriders. Exactly. I would say AOs are the most popular scripted item. Almost everyone has one, even if they do not have something like Mystitool. After that I would say scripted furniture (not just sex beds, but also other furniture with cuddle or chilll or relax scripts). After that I would say scripted balls, either dancing, or the PG versions (cuddling/making out) or the X rated ones. These are hugely popular. After that I would say the (scripted) genitals. In addition, other popular items include the scripted BDSM gear (not just collars, but also the rest of it and furniture and "gear" too) and the more technical ones, like the vendor scripts and, for builders, things like Prim Docker. |

MystiTool and Sexgen do do a lot of sales but Xcite probably blows them all away, I doubt Xgen and MystiTool together do as many sales as Xcite (just their scripted items) in any given time period.

Exactly. I would say AOs are the most popular scripted item. Almost everyone has one, even if they do not have something like Mystitool. AOs are a bit of a special case, though. Most AOs use one of several open source scripts which are available for free. They're not really selling the script, but selling the package of animations that come in the AO. Thus, they're not really in the same market as other scripted items (they're usually made by animators, not scripters). |

I think the top selling single unit production is probably the SexGen Gold beds,
every place seems to have one, and unlike AOs, it all seems to be that exact brand. |

Probably the mystitool HUD, but i`d be surprised to see anyone "take business" from her. Then you have never tried the Omicron from Omega Concern It seriously knocks the chips out of the Mystitool. ![]() _____________________

I would guess that it would be the Xcite male/female starter kit. Much easier to fork out 700L instead of 4500 or 12000.... whatever it costs. |

This seemed like a good place to plonk some positive feedback since you guys already mentioned the Omega Concern.
I just had some excellent support from April last night for a product I was having trouble with. It's another factor in scripted gadgets, but you don't know how good the support will be until you need it. Top marks for April @ Omega Concern from me. |
