1.0.3.2537
1.1.2.2584
1.2.0.2680
However, when I now go to check on the latest Snowglobe, it seem that they have dropped back to the 1.1.2.2584 version. Anyone know why they would have done that?

Since LL pushed out a new regular client, I thought I would check on the Snowglobe versions. In my Snowglobe download directory, I have the following versions:
1.0.3.2537 1.1.2.2584 1.2.0.2680 However, when I now go to check on the latest Snowglobe, it seem that they have dropped back to the 1.1.2.2584 version. Anyone know why they would have done that? ![]() _____________________

Odd - I am pretty sure I downloaded all of the various versions from the LL main download page, but maybe I did pull that 1.2 version from somewhere else (like the wiki page).
So, is the 1.1.3 version not on the main LL download page cuz it is not quite officially the latest release? Or are they just slow at keeping all of the various download sites up to date? . _____________________

1.1.3 will go onto the main download page after a day or two, if people trying it out don't report back with any disasters.
If you had the 1.2 build, yeah, it almost certainly came off something like the wiki or the mailing lists. |

Thanks. I'm going to go ahead and download the 1.1.3 version and try it out --- I always install into new directories anyway, so I'll still have the 1.1.2 if I need to revert back.

Is Snowglobe any good? Does it come with added features like Emerald does?

I just tried the 1.1.3 version and like the earlier versions it locks up while I'm using the browser on both monitors.
The latest version of Greenlife ran for many hours with no gripes not long ago. On my old machine, Snowglobe displays textures faster than most of the other viewers but is prone to hanging up. Snowglobe may have more new features than the regular SL viewer but nothing to compare with all the Greenlife stuff. _____________________

The biggest advantage to Snowglobe is when I am doing massive shopping or hunts cuz it does seem to rez textures much much faster. Also, when I am texturing my house, it seems to open that texture window much faster.
I've never had locking issues with it. _____________________

Aighh!!! Too many viewers. I have a tendency not to uninstall old versions for quite a while - hence the reason for so many versions of some of them. _____________________

On my old machine, Snowglobe displays textures faster than most of the other viewers but is prone to hanging up. I was surprised to see that with Snowglobe my FPS stabilized at 11.8 - 13.5, whereas with Emerald it was around 7.5 - 9. With such low FPS, that is a real difference in quality of experience. Texture rez rate seemed to be about the same. |

The Snowglobe Map loads very quickly.
If one is to believe the release notes (http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Snowglobe_Release/1.2), there's not much to be expected from 1.2. Does anyone know if there's been any progress on getting in-world script access to the http map textures (replacing, for example, the region map scripts using the subnova server), or is all that on the long, long list of "postponed" features? _____________________

It looks like that will be happening indirectly. The biggest change in 1.2 is the LLMedia stuff. While it's nice to have QuickTime and WebKit outside the main SL process, the bigger deal is that this also will be enabling the real "html on a prim" stuff we heard about so long ago. There are new LSL functions coming to help work with this stuff, darned if I can find where I left my notes (oh ok, llSetPrimMediaParams, llGetPrimMediaParams, llClearPrimMedia) |

Bells & Whistles

Over on http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Downloads there is a link to "Snowglobe, Frequency Edition". This is Snowglobe with the Dale Glass/Emerald/etc. bells and whistles tacked on. I downloaded "Snowglobe, Frequency Edition" today because of this thread... and I love it!! My desktop is still on XP... not only could I not get the voice figured out in the Emerald viewer...but my fps dropped so I could barely move. I was unable to use it. Thanks for tip Viktoria!!! ![]() _____________________

As many different viewers as there are, one might think someone would have fixed the Rendering / Axes bug, or put a direction indicator in the title bar or something.

Wow, thanks! Actually, that *was* how it was supposed to work, I just didn't realize it was part of the LLMedia API work, about which the discussions seemed... dilute. Anyway, that's great, and most eager to see those functions in the wild. Mm hmm it's going to be nice when it is all finished for real. I don't think 1.2 will quite have everything needed to make a face show arbitrary media, there is server side support that I believe isn't ready yet, and part of that was temporarily ripped out of Snowglobe for now. Short term, the API is there for testing against parcel media, to get ready for then. |

Just tested Snowglobe. Sculpties load much faster, especially 64x64 lossless sculpties. This is great news as those lossless sculpties were terrible for hanging around in a deformed state for an excrutiatingly lone time. Now the buggers rez almost instantly!
Only concern is that Snowglobe is a little crashy for me. Seems certain things inworld seem to crash the client and leave me staring at my Windows desktop - Kapoof! Gone!. Although today it seems to be quite stable. Must test.. |
