I have a friend, who has an adjacent island. She has ducks & swans in her lagoon Peacock running around the land area Dolphins etc
Many times, her ducks report that their going 'offworld' and she has to get back to try and find them or they end up in her 'lost & found' As far as I know..the samethings are happening to the swans!.
There not going near her island boundary as far as i'm aware The lagoon is a little inside from property lines
So what could be causing her ducks and swans to go all weird like that? And is this a common problem?
Now when i came to visit her a couple of times. I had a shield on (because usually where i would TP from was a common grifer hang out!) and the swans would start to rise when I was close. Think it was just them tryin to move and they end up going over the shield as they cant get through!
But she is having this problem many times when I'm not there and now I dont wear the shield atall when i do go.
Any ideas?

My crab used to run away all the time. Some scripts get borked after updates which is what was happening with my crab. Eventually the creator made an updated version that did not run away. Might want to contact the creator and see if other people are reporting the same problem.

I take it these pets are from Animania? That's the only place I can think of which has that wide variety of fauna.
My koi keep escaping their pond whenever there is a server restart. And since I've gotten Koi Fish, Koi Fishy, and Koi Needs a New Name, there have been many. And the most hilarious thing is when they stay on my land, but are out of their pond.
Anyway, it is something about how Animania's scripts react to rolling/sim restarts. I hope that brings some clarity, though it certainly doesn't solve the problem.

Personally, I think Animania has a bug in their on_rez event handling. There's no reason why free range SL animals cannot survive sim restarts without going bonkers; you just have to be a little careful. /

Are the animals physical? People may be running into them or shooting them making them fly off sim...

Physical pets that lack knowledge of their speed may not notice if they are being catapulted.

Is the land on a sim border?
It's always been an issue that physical objects behave strangely on sim borders. Not only physical objects. There's always been weird behaviour involved when you own land on a border.

Appreciate your replies
"Is the land on a sim border?"
Well not right at the edge...a few metres in as far as I'm aware.
"Are the animals physical? People may be running into them or shooting them making them fly off sim..."
Noo... this is an out of the way island with very little traffic and if so probably 2 people at most.
Again..thanx for your responses

The most important question is: are the animals updated to the latest version? Animania ducks and swans had the habit of going off-world quite often, but a while ago that problem was solved. As the owner of almost every animal Vinnie created, I can say the off-world problem is very rare these days, where in the past I had one in my lost and found almost every day. Simply take the animals back in your inventory, go to Animania, and use the updaters available there. The system is easy and once you have the latest versions, the problem should be over.

It will be interesting to hear if an answer is found for this topic, as we are also having the exact same issue with run away ducks and swans. We too are on an island sim.
Is your island running the havok beta? Ours is, and that was one of my thoughts as to something not working correctly
we have even been back and bought a new set of ducks and swans, but same issue again
very confusing. We find they are returned from going off world, or are stuck upside down at 0,0,0

*shameless plug alert* My peacocks stay put, but they are animated and very low prim. My swans are the same, and ducks are coming soon too. I am also happy to do any custom animals - except worms, I really dislike worms

I'm the Friend Taz Posted This Question about
02-24-2008 07:24
I wanted to ad that I have several animals and the only ones that are affected are the swans and the baby ducks. The Adult ducks stay put and yes, these particular animals are from animania. I also want to make it clear that this is in no way a slam to Animania or the creater of these animals. In my opinion, these are by far some of the most realistic animals I have seen in sl. I just want my swans & duck to stay put! They are in SL water and not close to the edge of the sim.
Thank you Taz and all of you for your help!

I have Animania animals in my sim, and the only ones I have problems with are the ducklings. They simply will not stay put, whereas the ducks, hummingbird, bat, and dragonfly have no issues at all. The ducklings are the latest version--that has not solved the problem. I simply gave up on having ducklings.

Any Solution Yet to Duckling Going Off World?
11-15-2008 10:53
I, too, have the problem with my Animania mallard duckling (the latest version 1.9c -- just went through the updater) rising up and up from prim water until it goes off world and gets returned to my lost and found. I do not have this problem with my other Animania swimming birds.
Has anyone found a solution to this issue yet? I contacted Animania and they said to use the updater. I did but it did not resolve the problem.
Let me add that I generally love Animania animals. They are some of the most realistic in SL. Thanks.

Have you checked to see if there are there any fox avatars in the neighbouring sim?

We had swans years ago. No clue who made them anymore and am not inworld to check. But they were physical and quite often someone would come along and shoot them just to send them flying to who knows where.
