I'd like to put some nature sounds on my land. How do I do that? Where do I find them?

Also, I have a crackling fireplace that is too loud (though I want to hear other nearby sounds.) Is it possible to make it quieter in the script or do I need a different sound?

Thanks.

If you look around some of the garden center type places you can find bird sounds and related "nature" sounds that you can pick up for free or for a low cost. Some of the beach/wave places have seagull sounds as well.

I'm pretty sure the sound level is manipulatable in the script. As far as adding sound to your land or an object--you'll have to get the looping bird sounds in the proper format, dump it into an invisible object and have a script run it--or you can upload it to a Shoutcast or something, and set your parcel to stream from that location.

I know I'm pretty vague on all this. I hope I've helped.

There is a free script out there called 'ambient sounds', easy to set up and you can configure it for any sounds, i made a nice spaceship background noise with it once. I might be so kind as to go to SL now and send it to you. (I'm sure it's transferrable)

PS I can send you the standard freebie birds sounds it configured to, too.

You already have quite a few 'nature' sounds in your inventory, they are part of the basic pack... some bird songs, water, crickets etc..

There are gardening packs around (usually at freebie places) or possibly SLX, that have small stone shaped prims with a sound script in them. I believe they are mod so you could always take the script and stick it in something else if the rock doesn't fit the decor.

Thanks, I got the pack from Deka, didn't even know we had sounds (silly me.) Now to figure out how to get it to work. I'll play with it later.

Robin Sojourner's AV shop in Livingtree has at least one nature sound generator, as well as a wind chime.

I have free sounds and sound scripts that I have compiled available in Lipshen.
The sound scripts are loop sound, day, night, and intermittent. There are sound prims too with the scripts already in them. The free sounds are the usual grab bag of everything from Star Trek Voyager Borg stuff to nature sounds.

We hoped to eventually set up a sound store but right now its just the freebies so feel free to help yourself. There is also a great set of free building tools in the big green sphere to the right of the big house on the hill.

Enjoy!

I have both of those in my shop and everybody asks about them. The sounds are very soothing. I second the vote on Robin's sound generators. And, they're very reasonably priced. :D

I've just made a day / night environment sound box of British / Irish bird sounds (there are American bird ones out there but I wanted something that was more familiar to me.)

It features robins, sparrows, blackbirds, thrushes and blue tits singing in the day time, then a tawny owl hooting and a wind-in-the-trees sound at night.

It's available on SL Exchange for L$25....end of advertisement...!

Just a couple of basics for any really new folks who may be reading:

> Sound can be added to any modifiable prim. The sound rocks referred to above (I got mine at enkythings) are 3 prims worth of rock, so if you are low on prims you may wish to extract the sounds and put them in a plant or something.

> To make ambient sounds you need a sound file and a script to play it. The sound can either be looped and played once, or the script can play the sound fragment at irregular intervals. Some scripts will play all the sounds in the contents of an object in random rotation .. I *think* the usual ambient_sounds script does this, but I would have to check.

> Yes, you can modify the script to play the sound at any level you want. E.g. I've offered to give my estate owner a script so that the landowner can touch the waterfalls to rotate between 4 sound levels, but so far he isn't biting :( Fires and waterfalls are usually too loud, no idea why. Of course you can turn down the sound in your preferences, but then other things are a bit muted.
