GIANT JELLO/BRICK WALL COMING THROUGH!!!!

Hey everyone. I got a question. What exactly is griefing?

I ask because sometimes I'll make these really odd abstract objects (weird glowing blocks with flexi properties) and then wear them. It's pretty funny to watch this big wobbly block walk around (yeah, kind of a n00b thing) and it's also kind of funny to see a crowd of people, turn into a large metalic block of shining greatness, and try and land on them. (Kind of like the trwamps from Super Mario) Someone told me that that is what griefing is. When you wear a really annoying prim and bother others with it. Is that correct?

If so, I apoligize to anyone I may have tried to squish. Although I will admit, it is fun making those type of prims. I'm all into abstract stuff so yeah...

If you were squishing against the wishes of the squished you griefed.

If you are not cognizant of the rights of peaceful existence another might have and insist on dissrupting anothers experience, you griefed.

If, there are no branches in your family tree, you may be a griefer :-).

Read community standards I believe its all there. There are or have been sims where attacking or waring or acting in those ways are acceptable, but need some sensory acuity here and common sense. Your question and attempt to justify your actions may indicate your common sense ain't all that common lol.

Keep in mind, you are allowed to cheat people out of land and rip off their creations and sell them, but if you stumble around in giant jello lobes you can get in trouble.

It could be seen as griefing, but of a very low level. Wouldn't particularly bother me, would be amusing to see to begin with, although I think it would get boring very quickly. You're certainly not the first to play around like that, I remember some guy wandering through my home dressed like that months ago. But he was abusive, not very amusing, and got ejected/banned.

EDIT: If that amuses you, check out the Jello avatars at Grendels Children - come complete with pieces of fruit. I remember dancing with my partner, both wearing Jello, at some place full of newbies and listening to the cries of "wtf is THAT?"

WEll I only did this in one of the sandboxes. I woldn't go to some nice cafe or club and do it unless not very many people were there.

Once I went into one place and there were only a few people around. I was just walking around as this giant glowing block and not bothering anyone. THey did however ask why I was doing that....

SO I'll keep that in mind. I really only try and squash my friends though and they don't really have a choice. >:D

Yeah, I'm a pretty crazy random person so yeah. I understand common sense, but what makes SL great is its lack of physics which makes it really fun for me.

Imagine walking up to a building and right when you're about to go inside, it just floats away. That's kind of annoying but you gotta admit, for the first 10 or so seconds, it's kind of funny.

Thanks for the definition. I'll make sure not to do that to people.

I would find it funny first time, after that it would be stale, then annoying :)

That or similar jelly/jello with fruit is used by my favourite bot.
There's a particular bot that sat for months on the seabed in the middle of the Khambatta Linden water sim.
I was really entranced when I came across it. Most bots are bad Ruth-like and often with 'missing texture'.

I don't know what the bot does, but it was beautiful - certainly in that environment.
Putting that bot avatar at the bottom of the ocean shows a humour and a level of care that is sadly missing in most bot operators.
It's a small thing to do, but it can brighten peoples' SLs.

Yep, it might be fun for you, but you've got to ask yourself is it fun for anyone else? People take this sort of thing with varying degrees of sense-of-humour-failure. If I was in a sandbox working on a tricky build and some giant gelatinous critter glomphed into me, I'd be a bit annoyed. Likewise if I was in the middle of some RP. The trouble is, you can't tell ahead of time who you're going to piss off, so it's best not to try.

If you turned up at a 'Best in Green' competition as a plate of lime jelly, however, you'd get my admiration, thanks for brightening my day, and probably my vote too :)
