I'm looking to join a group, in particular a discussion group, and even more specific: either a political group or current events discussion group. In-game, all I have found are clubs for free or discounted clothes, or designers or scriptors, or model agencies, or furries or vampires, or anything else that isn't what I'm looking for.
Anyway, since I haven't at all found what I'm looking for (not even close), I'm starting to wonder if there ARE any discussion groups out there? You know, just to meet and chat. No party music, no strippers, nothing fancy. If groups like this exist, could someone please tell me where to look -- maybe even recommend a favorite?
Okay, here's the thing. If a discussion group does NOT exist -- or, if they're just plain unpopular -- then would anybody here be interested in starting one with me?

I'm going to ask the obvious. have you tried the in game search? Under the Groups tab, type in a keyword of interest. It isn't perfect, you will get a lot of off beat stuff, but you might find something.

I have tried in the past, but found either nothing of interest or out-dated/inactive groups. If someone can confirm that groups for discussion exist, then I will try another search, but my motivation to look for one has faded over the entire time I've been active in Second Life.

I did a couple of quick searches -- type in "political discussion" or "current events discussion"

"Swords Crossed" "Political Hill" "SL Society of Political Science"
all look like some decent sized groups (55 members and over)

I'm pretty sure there is at least one book discussion group in Caledon that meet regularly. I also happened upon a coffee shop the other day that had a sign in it that said regular book discussions were held there as well. (Can't recall the name of it but would likely show up under "book discussions" in group search if there is a group for it.)
The Etopia sim holds discussions on Friday nights and other times I think. You can pick up a calendar at Etopia or contact Jojogirl Bailey or Ti10 Wylie.

Thank you so much, Czari. I have found a group that still has online members and I have decided to look at their blog. I may stick with this group. I would never have found it without posting here first! I appreciate your help, everyone.
