Hi
I have a friend whose sl time clock (the one in the top right) is showing a different time to mine I thought this came from main server? Is it possible to change it in the client/viewer?
Many thanks

There is no way to that I am aware of.
SL time is in sync with Linden Lab's time zone (PST). People use that time frame when scheduling events, etc. If we could all change our time zones that might make for some pretty confused event times, etc. ![]() IF your friend is able to do this, he/she should be able to explain how it was done. But I have never seen a setting on any menu/debug etc that allows it. _____________________

SL time is actually client side... it is based on your clock on your computer... change that and SL time will change. I discovered this when the norther hemisphere changed times and the southern went the other way. my SL time was screwed... i had to change the time zone i was in to fix the silly thing

Something new I learned. ![]() I am on PST myself so maybe that is why it never has a change option for me. ![]() Still, I wonder why people hold events around SL time (I presume PST), even from other countries? _____________________

Thanks guys - I'll let her know. Her computer was just rebuilt so i guess the time is wrong on her computer.
As to events being held around sl time. I guess we all think it IS fixed so it is a set time that everyone can relate to. we know how many hours ahead or behind we are and can adjust. if we all gave times in local time we would risk confusing everyone - its bad enough now lol. Anyway - thanks for the help ![]() |

the inworld time changes according to the pst time, in the spring and fall when it changes, so does the SL time
your clock on the PC has nothing to do with it. try it, change your time zone then log in and see what time it is in SL then log out, change the timezone again, log in and SL time will still be on the same timezone (pst) for those who actually do change the SL time (such as your friend) they should report it as a bug, sl time should be the same for us all _____________________

Rhoath you are incorrect the clock is client side... i know because my time has to be 2 hours out on my computer to be right on SL time... i dont know if this only occurs if you have a version of windows created for the sothern hemisphere, but it caused me no end of trouble ... and in the end i just put up with my cliock time out so i can know SL time.
Everytime i change the time on my computer it updates the time on SL.... *shrugs* i have no idea but it HAS to be client side for that to happen _____________________

K, a couple things to help solve this riddle.
From the knowledge base on SLT: What does "SLT" stand for? It's not a term you're likely to see around a whole lot these days, but just in case: SLT stands for Second Life Time, which the inworld clock displays near the top-right corner of the Second Life window. Second Life Time is the same as Pacific Time (PDT or PST depending), because San Francisco is where the main offices of Linden Lab makers of Second Life, are situated. Time zones can be confusing, so here's a great page called The World Clock to help you figure out how to convert between them. Unless otherwise noted, times on our website, such as our Official Linden Blog, are in Pacific Time/Second Life Time. On the front page of the Second Life website and on Second Life's login screen, you see Second Life Time = PST/PDT. https://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=4417 And SLT on my viewer is a minute or so off from my PC time in windows. _____________________

Everytime i change the time on my computer it updates the time on SL.... *shrugs* i have no idea but it HAS to be client side for that to happen well I would not go so far as to say I am wrong, because of the fact I did change my time, logged in and SL still showed as the PST time It might have something to do with the southern hemisphere, I would contact SL if I were you maybe it is not something they are aware of again... I repeat I am not wrong... neither are you. I do not think it is supposed to change the time within SL, which is why I suggest to check with them. IF the clock were clientside it would change for all of us... so that being said... it is safe to deduce that the clock is indeed not clientside, that you are experiencing something that I would guess should not happen (again... contact LL let them know) _____________________

FYI contacted support regarding another issue and while at it I asked about changing the SL time display
this was the reply "Rhaorth_Antonelli: Hello Matthew, couple things. first I was wondering if you could give me an answer to this... is it possible for a user to change the time that is showing in world (the sl time at the top, the PDT) by changing the time on their PC Matthew: Hi there, thanks for calling I'm afraid the in-world time is fixed and cannot be changed."_____________________

I'm in southern hemisphere too, but my times always match.
Eclectic, on your windows clock, do you have "automatically adjust clock for daylight saving changes" ticked? A 2hr change sounds, to me, like it's to make up for changes for daylight savings. During my summer, I'm 19hrs ahead of SL. During my winter, I'm 17hrs ahead of SL. |

yes it was as a result of daylight savings butch... and it was even worse because australia changed all their daylight savings days and obviously microsoft isnt up with that so or a week or two there i was out bu like an hour instead off two... anyway this is all very weird...
the only thing i can think is i use the nicholaz viewer.... so maybe he did somethng which makes the clock client side... btu iff i change my time on my computer it changes on SL _____________________
