ARGHHHH.......

Every once in awhile, but becoming more prevalent... I am getting this error. It's Dell laptop - with an Intel video card. It has been suggested to me there isn't much I can do other than switch to my PC- not my first choice .

Any one else suffered thru this and found the light? I understand it was an issue with WOW folks too, but WOW patched it.

Sorry, just covering the obvious things first.
Have you checked with Dell? Updated any and all drivers or bios flashes?

If you search the net for that file name you will see tons of people having that same problem with tons of games (WoW, Sims etc).

Lots of people talking about it, there may be some help ut there. Just type that file name into google and trudge through the links

Yup- I did that- the googling bit- it's how I knew about WoW - figured though, it would be best to find an answer among SLers since the answers may be different for each game with a problem.

The BIOS thing- it was suggested to me by someone who knows about these things that it wasn't going to help.

Oh, and yes, updated my video driver.

So- who here has had similar?

When I played WOW I had the same problem with my intel chipset.

I have not ..*knocks on desk*... not experienced the problem with SL yet though.

Unfortunately, Intel graphics is almost always problematic. Intel just doesn't build their graphics cards with this kind of thing in mind (despite what some of the packages say). They build with low cost and office applications in mind, and they leave the heavier lifting to nVidia and ATI.

I wish I knew what to tell you, Amaranthim. The error has to do with the video driver, and you've updated to the latest version. The only thing I can think to say is call LL tech support. Intel 945 is officially supported now (although not recommended), so maybe they'll have a fix for you.

Of course, the most solution-oriented answer is to say get a better graphics card. But since in the case of a laptop, that means get a whole new machine, that's probably not what you want to hear.

Might I suggest trying WL? My laptop (Intel 910/915 GM graphics) crashes constantly under the standard SL viewer. With WL, is crash free.

Really? About Windlight- I was afraid it would make matters worse really... Everyone talks about how awesome the graphics, etc- I thought it wd kill my machine... Views folks,, for comparisons please...

works like a dream. Always has. Fast, smooth, looks great, provokes oooohs and aaahhhhs (but enough about me)

It may start out by saying your system isn't comaptible. Don't worry about it and OK through it. Just start out with what WL says is your settings (graphics usually set to LOW). Then adjust it. You will find out what you like and what details you can sacrifce is order to avoid lag.

WL has its own client so you will have two SL start-up icons on your screen. If WL doesn't work, then you can go back to wringing your hands over the standard client just by logging out and using the other start icon.

I switched to WL and will not go back unless I have to....love it.

As far as seeing any improvements with WL over the standard...they "seemed" to run about the same. maybe, possibly, WL runs easier.

Give it a try.

If WL's working well for others with the same graphics setup as you, then by all means give it a try. Just be aware that you might not be able to see some of the things that makes WL look so good. Be sure to experiment with the graphics settings in Preferences. There's a lot more stuff to tweak in WL than in the old viewer. Not all of it might work. It's possible it all will, but there's no guarantee.
