Someone accepted an inventory offer from me - but I didn't give him anything!?

Hi!

I already asked this some hours ago in the technical questions forums, but it seems nobody has an answer there and so I'm trying my luck here because it's more frequented: I was at Bay City - Docklands and talking to some friends, as some griefer came along doing some "funny" things like sitting on me, trying to beat me with a baseball bat etc. Then suddenly I received in total 4 message in the local chat window, that this griefer has accepted my inventory offer and I also got the blue info window in the bottom right corner of the screen in at least one case. But I didn't gave him anything! I directly checked the transaction log, but no sign of any inventory transfer to him there, too. My next idea was he maybe got some stuff from my OpenCollar enabled collar, but he isn't set as owner and has no access to it (checked it with someone else). Since the griefer and I are both using the Emerald viewer (or at least his viewer has been identified as Emerald, too), I checked if there is some setting that may have caused it, but found nothing.

So now I'm a bit confused what has happened and worried he could have done some malicious things. Any idea what could have happened here?

Possibly the OpenCollar automatically gives out a landmark to someone who touches it? Sometimes creators sneak that into attached items.

AFAIK it does not. Usually when you touch it and are allowed to you get a menu. And in my case, he would have had to cam behind my hair which has some prims with partly transparent textures preventing simple touch actions to the collar. Also, if it has been that way that an object I'm wearing was handing out stuff, shouldn't that be visible in my transactionl log?

Were you, by any chance, changing clothes or equipping any huds at that time? (perhaps putting on some weapons?)

Do you, perchance out of habit, usually equip clothes and attachments by dragging them from your inventory onto your avatar?

Or perhaps, were you attempting to rez a chair, vehicle, or other device to sit upon and thus take a bit of shelter from this person's actions?

It's possible perhaps, that said avatar, who was "all over you", perhaps had some element of their avatar "get in the way" of a few of your "drops". Resulting in you "giving away" some things.

No to all of that. I was sitting on a chair, but already some time before the griefer arrived. I was just involved in chat and did not try to rez anything at that time.

It's annoying & scary but don't worry about it- there is a certain viewer out there that can do everythig that you've described (and more unfortunately)... spoofing the client tag & "inventory offer accepted" messages is just one of the many tools that it gives griefers. The message is fake, just forget about it (although please do AR the griefing asshat for harassment etc).

That viewer is one of many that LL should shut down or take legal action against... the creators brazenly develop & operate in the open with stated goals such as wrecking SL for everyone (using LL's open source code to do it- WTG LL!)... LL SEEM (I hope I'm wrong) to be more interested in butt kissing corporations than protecting their community at the mo though soooo ???... find a Linden who'll give you an official statement that they're aware of the issue and are trying to do something about it and you win a cookie...

Sorry for cynical/jaded response... last time action was taken against people using these kinds of viewers (50+ people banned for doing VERY TOS violation stuff), LL decided to forgive them and unban them all the next day... yes indeed, WTF...

Thanks for your detailed answer, Amael! I feel a relieved now because I thought he might have stolen some inventory from me somehow or did some things that can get myself into trouble with LL. But I only have a screenshot with the chat inventory accept messages I took quite a while later. Will this help anything at all if I AR him? Not much proof LL will have a closer look I guess. :(

No worries. Yeah go ahead and AR him describing all that he did with as much detail as you can remember (times, places etc) and if you can include the screenshot then do so. The mods will have access to logs & info that you don't so they'll do their own investigating. Don't hold your breath about action being taken against the griefer though... just AR & move on!

And if LL pressed charges and had them all arrested who would keep the SL grid running?
