Save and Lock

When I finish rezzing my house I see a choice to "Save" the construction. But I am told I should also "lock" the house after it is finished. What is the difference betwen 'save' and 'lock', and if I really do have to lock it, how do I go about doing that? After saving I go outside and right click on the building and get the usual pie menu, with no mention anywhere of locking. Left click brings up nothing at all. I am confused beyond my usual addled state. Can someone explain, and help?

Thanks.

I believe when you choose "save," it locks it into place along with saving. :)

If you are using a rez box, it should give you a menu with the options to "de-rez", "lock" and "save positions".

De-rez makes the house go 'back in the box'.
Lock deletes the option to de-rez the house. You can then delete the rez box.
Save positions records the position and rotations of the prims. This is supposed to be useful for something, like if you need to recover from an editing mistake later. I've never really figured it out.

If you're NOT using a rez box, but just dragging it from inventory onto the ground, then if you right click it and select Edit, you should see a check box called "locked" in the Object tab of the edit menu. Clicking this will mean that you'll get a warning message if you later try to move or edit or change textures on the object. You won't be able to do those things until you go back into Edit and uncheck the "locked" checkbox. It's a good safety precaution.

"Locked" is also a property of a primitive (along with phantom, temporary and physical) that proctects it from accidental editing.

Ohhhh, now that I have reread the OP, I do believe that is what he is talking about.
That is a feature I always use now myself. I have deleted by accident far too many times

Save or lock

I have used both the SAVE and/or the LOCK, and have still managed to accidentally delete a building. It was a freebie building, so is that the reason that it wouldn't really lock?

Thanks,
Grace
