You pay the tier by donating the land's tier value to the group, get taxed. Any combination of you pay/he pays, whatever you pay will get taxed, as well as your membership dues. If you go basic and just send him paypal or checks via snail mail to cover the tier, you don't get charged any VAT *through Linden Lab*. However, if you go that route, you could, conceivably, be brought up on charges of tax evasion and therefore pay an even higher percentage of VAT than you were trying to avoid. Hmmmmmm. For many Europeans owning mainland, I see marriages of convenience with Americans in the near future. Too bad this workaround won't work with islands.

Incidentally, at least for mainland, single ownership always works out to be a better value deal than any amount of group-based tier bonus.
Just have the non-EU player own all the land, and send regular "gifts" to that player. Gifts are not VATable. _____________________

ty for advice looks like hes bout to be paying tier now, not sure bout tax evasion how since is rl partner ill just claim which is true im unable to pay tier due to rk circumstances
