How do I run two (2) SL browsers at the same time to run two avies for a testing session.
ie either two SL clients, or on SL and the other Emerald.
I saw a Torley Tip once, but can't find it.

add --multiple to the end of the Target in the icon's Properties. (Make sure there's a space between the filepath and the addition)

Can't you just log on two av's at once onto sl by going to the sl Logo right click on it and select properties. Go to target then after exe space - (underscore) multiple.

is that
_multiple (underscore) or --multiple (hyphen) one or two? Both answers conflict |

Yeah ummmm "-multiple" "--multiple" "_-multiple" and "_--multiple" will all work, its just a matter of your system configuration. Play with it until you find what works. My system as it is right now requires "_-multiple" where it use to be"--multiple."
ETA~I'm not sure what the dependencies are as far as OS and SL client version are concerned. _____________________

Mine is ""C:\Program Files\SecondLife\SecondLife.exe" --channel "Second Life Release" -multiple"
So a "_--channel" fallowed by "_-multiple" for my setup. Having more than one configuration setting might be why I only need the single hyphen with mine. _____________________

double seems to work best, and there is one blank space before the two hyphens.
There's a similar trick in Mac, but not as easy. Requires duplicating the client app, and adding that --multiple to a file named arguments.txt that is embedded in the contents of the client app itself. _____________________

No Need To Mess With Your SL Shortcuts To Run Multiple Viewers...
12-17-2009 12:35
Emerald on Windows 7 seems to allow multiple clients by default. Same with XP Pro. I found a setting in SnowGlobe's debug settings "AllowMultipleViewers." I just set it to "TRUE" and I can run as many as I want. Without adding "-multiple" to the SC. OHHH... I just checked the regular client. It has the same debug setting. It is set "FALSE" as default. I remover the "-multiple" from my SC and i was only able to run one client. After setting the debug to "TRUE" I could run more than one at a time. Was this setting always there or is it new? ETA~ Its new because I went through every setting in '05 and never noted it. I wonder when it was added. _____________________

I wonder when it was added. Changing the target can sometimes be finicky so I always use "AllowMultipleViewers" in the debug settings as well. Like Rafe said, just set it to true. Ctrl Alt D to access the debug settings if you weren't aware of that. _____________________

Emerald on Windows 7 seems to allow multiple clients by default. Is there nothing that Emerald can do? It just boggles what's left of one's mond. _____________________

This just another case of Emerald doing something the regular client already does: I'm sure that selection of 'Advanced > Rendering > Run multiple Threads' has been all we have needed to do to run multiple clients for at least a year, making the shenanigans with "is-it-one-hyphen-or-two-and-what-about-the-space-before-multiple-in-the-shortcut-and-are-we-talking-about-XP-or-Vista-or-oh-noes-Windows-7" totally unnecessary. Jiggly bazoombas and a rash of attachment points aside, it seems every other 'extra' feature I read about in Emerald is just a different arrangement of default settings that are already available in the standard client. |

Probably, but it seems to me that for a lot of folk the next step after getting the hang of SL is to use a third party client on the assumption it will offer greater facility whereas most of the innovations on offer are just standard options that have been pre-tweaked and set to be more in-your-face. Outside of a few big selling points, I read of very little that an hour or two spent tinkering with the Debug Settings wouldn't fix.
