I have a small shop that I would like someone to work in. We are not talking hard work, more along the lines of collecting dust really. I would like to see someone come in to help with sales and of course customer service.
BUT
The question is pay, how much ?
A search on the boards got me little information that was usefull.
I am thinking a hour rate plus a % of sales.
Anyone have any thoughts on this ?

Simply an hourly rate is what most get. If you also have them on a model stand to show your clothes, then possibly the outfit(s) they model as well.

in all honesty, It's up to you, a suggestion woudl be to base it on how much you might earn so, say your avarage earning in a week is L$1000, then that's all you're going to have ...
The last thing you will want to start doing is offering money out fo your pocket, because then you'll be at a loss, and thigns will lose all fun for you in regards to content creation.
Lets say Betty works for 2 hours three days a week ... that's 6 hours.
Now lets say You're paying betty 50L$ an hour ... That's 300 Lindens ...
So that leaves you with 700 Lindens to upload new textures and the like for your products ...
Just an example... Hope it helps!

You said you have a small shop...do you have a constant customer flow? How necessary is it to have someone in the shop? It has been my experience that most shoppers really don't want any assistance, and often will tp away if they feel a store owner/employee is hovering.

I dont need anyone is a shop to help me and I find it most annoying when you have models on stands who are AFK. If you want to ask them about the outfit they wear they are never there

From: Ralektra Breda You said you have a small shop...do you have a constant customer flow? How necessary is it to have someone in the shop? It has been my experience that most shoppers really don't want any assistance, and often will tp away if they feel a store owner/employee is hovering. That is what I was thinking. I really don't like entering a shop and being jumped on to help. I actually keep out of my shops unless I am working on it or been messaged by a customer. I noticed years ago that if I was in the shop, over half would tp out pretty quick. I know not all are like that, some actually like to stand and talk to the owner, but I think the highest percentage like to browse without being watched. I must admit in RL I dislike walking into shops to be asked if they can help me before I have even looked around to see if anything I am interested in. I want assistants to be there when I do want some info, not before. What do assistants do in SL? They can't replace or alter goods. I can understand having them when it comes to technical items, just not sure about clothes, furniture etc.
