Release Candidate and Search

I thought I'd have a look at search in the current release candidate and I find the Adult option isn't active; i.e. I can't check it. My payment info has beem used. Is this normal at the moment, or should the option be active?

It is not fully active yet.. Not sure why or what the hold up is But the system isn't working properly

You have to enable access to Adult Content in the General tab in Preferences.

I've noticed you can search ok with just adult selected in the "all" search but there is nothing but 3 or 4 ads coming up in "places" for just adult selected.

Also there was just one adult classified, the rest where all mature.

Also, unlike every other setting in Preferences, this seems to have to be done per account. I toggled it in my main account and thought my PIU alt could not access Adult Content in Search until I happened to look through Prefs one day and realized I had to toggle it for that account as well.

Handy that LL has mentioned this ALL OVER THE PLACE. Not.

Watch the 'adult access' checkybox come with a monthly service fee and watch the monehs pour in...

I wonder if charging for adult access will be resisted, and if so, for how long.

They might want to first get people to actually go to the Adult areas before they start counting their money. SL has been a porno playground up until now, and the big old players seem to think it will be a cakewalk getting folks across that barrier, but you know: there's no guarantee. Oh, people will get their pr0n, alright, but whether they'll continue to get it in SL or on some more specifically explicit platform with lower cost and/or easier entry--that remains to be seen.

Assuming they make it past that hurdle, all sorts of options present themselves, including spinning off Czyndra and the rest of Adult SL to a separate business entity with an altogether different fee structure.

That probably depends on how many users are willing to use payment information to verify to access it. If there is a spike in PIU accounts after the 1.23 viewer becomes official, I believe it's inevitable.

I expect they'll take the Beta label off age verification and start charging for it. Soon after that, they'll stop accepting payment information for access to adult content.

Yes and no. The setting has to be by-account, but it's a "design decision" that they don't give full access as the default setting for every account that's "adult verified" (whether by IDV or payment info). They can do whatever they want, of course, it's just noteworthy that what they decided to do makes it as inconvenient as possible to actually encounter anything Adult.

Which would necessitate a PIOF for anyone who wanted to see the sexors

I don't know. I'm used to parameters I set in Preferences - say, draw distance - being persistent for that viewer on that computer. So if I change draw distance and then log in on a new account, that avatar has the new draw distance. Whereas, if I change draw distance on my computer and then log in the same account on my husband's computer, I have whatever draw distance he's set.

Obviously, if I change Preferences to be able to see Adult Content on my main, and then log in a non-age-verified, NPIOF alt, I would expect that account to be unable to see Adult Content, no matter what I'd toggled on the viewer. BUT my expectation was that changing it in the viewer, then logging in another account which should be allowed access, would allow that account to have access. It doesn't.

It makes sense for it to be changed per account, it just caught me by surprise.

Be aware that these preferences are not client side preferences, if you log back in with the regular viewer these settings will still apply, even though you can't set them in the regular viewer.
