After looking at many female shapes, I've found one that I like... It turns out to be a furry shape, but it works very well as an ordinary female shape. It isn't hypersexy or huge-breasted... just looks normal.
Except for one thing, which is the size of the hands. They're BIG. It's not very noticeable, but every so often I see myself and say, "Whoa! Man hands!"
I've opened the Appearance window, reduced the hand size, saved it. It works for that session, but next time I log in, my hands are big again.
I've checked permissions on the shape, and I can modify, copy, transfer, so I don't see what the problem is.
Does anyone have an idea why it doesn't work?
Or could you point me to a store that sells more ordinary female shapes?

Maybe you could try editing a copy of the shape? It might be the main one doesn't want to save for some SL based reason, but a copy might do it.

I would even go so far as writing down the slider settings, making a new shape, and re-entering the slider settings. I had a similar problem with my shape sliders maxing out every time I logged in. Also try clearing your network cache.

Hi Key, I make shapes as well. You can probably find plenty of nice 'normal' looking female shapes without having to resort to trying to modify a furry shape. It takes some practice....but doing shapes is relatively simplistic. If you need any more help....I also do custom shapes in case you had a certain look in mind. I'm always happy to help folks achieve the look they want. It's a lot of fun~!!! Good luck.....and remember when editing shapes....always save new copies so you have the original at all times to go back to.

Thanks for all the suggestions and offers of help. You've given me ideas for things I want to try...
It turned out I had more than one copy of the shape in my inventory, and that's why the big hands kept coming back.
So, I'm going to keep the shape I've been using, and mess around with a copy of it to see if I can make it look something like the RL me.

If you want your shape to reflect your RL self, try sending pics of yourself to Colette Meiji; she makes shapes, and she did a custom one for a friend of mine using RL pics. It was spectacular. I'd IM Colette inworld to ask about prices, etc.

All my slider settings are written down on paper and stored safely, just in case the worst happens.
But, actually, that list of settings has come in very useful in a way I didn't envisage when it was compiled. I also belong to OpenLife, one of the SL clones. With the aid of my piece of paper I was able to recreate my appearance accurately in OL, and again for my standalone sim! WOOT!
