This should rate as a dumb question from someone who has been doing this for a while and actually belongs to several groups already.  But when I search for a group and find the description page for it there seems to be no way to join. In the upper right corner there's a black area. Was there once a "join" button or suchlike? I honestly don't remember.

it may be that the group you're looking at, is not "open join"... try contacting one of the owners of the group, and see if they will invite you.

Some groups are open join and have a join button, others are invitation only.
To join an invitation only group, ask an officer for an invite.

Generally there will be a button, right under the picture, on the group's profile page. If you search for a group, there will be a button on the result page that says View Full Profile. Most groups will have a "Join Group" button, which will also state the cost to join (even if it's L$0). Note that not all groups have Join buttons. Some groups are invitation only.

If you do a search for a group via the new All search tab, there will be a button to click that provides the full profile/info. If you click that, you then get what looks like the group info tab that you can still get via the old Group tab search. It is that page that will have the Join button if the group is open for joining - otherwise, you will have to be invited into the group.
