http://blog.secondlife.com/2008/07/09/letter-to-second-life-residents/Good morning. And another Linden brain teaser in the blog for us to have fun attempting to interpet. Is it many key strokes to say nothing or groundbreaking information? Didn't we just have the BIG ANNOUNCEMENT at the close of SL5B three days ago? So why was this slipped out there? The resident blog responses are the regular stability screamers and Linden brown-nosers. Anne OToole suggests that this was a response to the google Lively launch. I see alot of responses from people that feel M Linden is the new Messiah - he will make all of our dreams come true. I am from New York. We arrested the Messiah over the Fourth of July weekend and threw him in Bellevue for psychiatric observation - so M Linden ain't him. .

It's already being discussed in the "So Now They Are Feeling the Heat" thread ( /327/e2/269900/1.html) in case you missed that one.

I don't think they are feeling the heat. I think too many disgruntled SL users just hang out in the forums too god damn much.
He's right about the RC. It has become quite stable. No more CTD's for me. No more random disconnects. I haven't seen a sim crash/reboot in weeks. Things are getting better. I think it is silly to believe that the people at LL don't care about their creation. I am sure that database stability and performance is on the top of the list.
I just find it so silly that some people actually think LL isn't doing anything. It reminds me of MMORPGs and the customer who complains on the forum about new features being implemented while their are still bugs. This kind of thinking reeks of an ignorant understanding of software companies. There are usually multiple teams of people - some working on bugs, others working on content. So, yeah, I laugh when people "believe" that LL is aloof and only wants to work on adding new features. You better be damn happy we're getting new features. Voice chat, windlight, better looking water - all go a long way in keeping new users around - especially those who are used to a higher graphical standard.
Lively is just IMVU for Google. It amazes me that people actually think it will be a real competitor. Was Google Talk a real competitor in the IM market? No. What about Orkut? Unless you're Brazilian, it did not make an impact on the social networking scene. I'm so sick of this automatic assumption that if it is Google, it must be good.

From: Pablo Mazie Voice chat, windlight, better looking water It's ironic that those are the features you highlight since LL didn't create those (licensed technology for the first, bought technology for the second). (Edited to add that there's nothing wrong with licensed or acquired technology, but you can't claim it as an accomplishment for LL)

Eh... it was okay, for a corporate rah rah letter. I did't 'spect much, though.
I'd like to see him *experience* this world, rather than keep telling us what a n00b he is.

No way he could do it as M. Could you imagine the IM's, the friend offers, the 'business ideas' and the rants? I'm guessing he would get three steps and then his IM bar would light up like the alien arrival scene in Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Though employee invisibility mode is cool though...

From: Damien1 Thorne Is that what you call it these days? Uhmmmmmm....some trips do wind up as "One Way" for some unfortunate reason.

From: Desmond Shang No way he could do it as M. Could you imagine the IM's, the friend offers, the 'business ideas' and the rants? Well, he'd have to do it as an alt. "M Linden" can't experience what a resident can experience, simply by the nature of being "M Linden." Instead, he'd have to do it as in old fairy tales, and let the king dress as a beggar.

.
You don't KNOW this. If gang leaders can run their street gangs from inside the joint, then the Messiah can run LL from Bellevue. Has anyone seen M in person since the 4th? Didn't think so. Unbeliever... I'd like to see M get some experience as an alt. He should hole himself up for a few weeks with an alt that works just like our accounts. No super-Linden powers, no Starship Enterprise level service, no nothing. He should experience it like we do - the good and the bad. I think it would give him good perspective.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the impression I got was that Mr M had BEEN a resident in SL. I can only assume not one having the same "in the dirt" ordinariness which we know and love.

I can only assume not one having the same "in the dirt" ordinariness which we know and love. well judging by his blank original account, he may have been one who logged in, checked it out a few days, the never came back. But it still counts as 'former resident'. And to the OP, yes, I'm pretty sure the Lively launch prompted the post. That and the release of the positive quarterly statistics.
