Hi everyone, it's Nia with another newbie question :)

I purchased a lovely outfit, but now I cannot figure out how to put it on,

it is in my inventory under "objects", but when I select "wear", the advertisement is attached to me, not the actual outfit

can anyone offer advice?

thanks!

Hi Nia.

The clothes are inside the box. Check this out to help you get it out of there:

Have fun!

Hi Nia,

Good question. You are not alone in having boxes attached to your body.

OK, here's what you do...

oh wait...just saw that Mac answered your question...listen to him...he knows stuff! :D

You know -- I STILL do this after more than a year. The thing is, with some clothing items being made of prims you can't always tell if it's in a box or not.

I know I've received some items of clothing that are just in folders and you can put them on right away. It must be the delivery system that determines whether it's boxed or not. I'd be happier without boxes (subtle hint to vendors).

Back in da olden days of SL, boxes automatically mounted on the head when worn. If'n ya ain't looked dumb in public with a box on your head, ya ain't lived yet. And don't git me started on how we had to use telehubs and walk for miles to git anywhere. :p

It depends whether the item is set to sell the item with contents, or just the contents.

And it was funnier back when the default attach point for boxes was on your head.

Hehe Weston, I've accidentally dropped jewelry on my floor, thinking I had to take it out of a box when the object really was the item. Sometimes those tiny prims are hard to pick up, too!

Yeah, you got it easy with the new hand default for boxes.

I clearly remember buying a german shepherd dog and accidently attaching it to myself - in the welcome area. There I was with a dogs bottom as a face :(

And I have no idea how to detach it, and couldn't see for crying of laughing anyway, hehe

I routinely wear my boxes. If I find something good in a no build zone, I'm far too impatient to wait until I find a place to unpack.

The only problem I have now is that before I can click detach, I get three or four IM's telling me how to open the box.

I used to get embarrassed when I wore something prim-based (like jewelry) that turned out to be boxed. After a while, you just get to a "So what?" kind of mentality...everyone has done it at some point or another, so it's not that big a deal.

If you're expecting multiple pieces though, and you only have one prim in inventory, it's almost certainly boxed.

You would think by now that shops would put goods in a shopping bag prim instead of a big ugly box. That way if newcomers wear the "shopping bag" they won't look so bad and one could get the goods out without bashing other people over the head with a large box. The shopping bag could be scripted to auto-open to help newcomers as well.
