Hi!
I have a piece of land, which I own, and a group, which currently has as members, myself as owner of the group, and two of my alts, who are officers of the group. I'd like to have the alts home location on this land, but I keep getting an error msg telling me I cant set home location for the alts on the land. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I seem to recall that the land must be deeded to the group, from when I went thru this about a year ago.. I wanted to be sure before I deed the land to the group, as a deed of the land is not reversable, IIRC.. Is this what I need to do?

Yes, it has to be deeded to group. While deed is not reversible, you can at some point have the group sell it back to you for $1.

1) Yes, you have to deed the land to the group for "Set home location" to work.

2) No, a deed is easily reversible. Just sell the land to yourself (e.g. for L$ 0).

BE CAREFUL: Always explicitly set up yourself as the buyer. DO NOT sell to anyone. You will lose your land to a landbot if you do the latter.

Always "trade" land back to yourself (or a friend) for L$0. It's too easy for someone new to miss the specific avatar option and they won't realize the consequences of leaving it off if they use L$1 instead of L$0 :(.

On a related note, how do you un-set your home location if you no longer have an applicable home location? One of my friends used to have an apartment for a while, but decided not to spend the extra L$ and just wander the grid. Whenever logging in and forgetting to set the "My Last Location", the friend ends up accidentally showing up in her old apartment (which fortunately, so far, has not been re-rented).

You need to set a new home location. i think if they search NCI in places, that group has a place to call hom, and lots of other interesting things for the "homeless"

Yes. The only way to change a home location is to set a new one. NCI or The Shelter are both pretty good choices if someone has no actual home in SL.

As to the original post, yes, deeding is necessary for many of the group role functions to work at all. If multiple people share tenancy, deeding to a group is the only valid way to set up the land.
