Where's the av?

I'm totally bewildered. Right now I'm standing 1 meter from an av, but I can't see it.

I'd noticed that a certain av had been in the store for a long time, so I went to see what's happening. I've had to use my radar to get this close because I can't see an av or a nametag. My movement isn't impeded by an invisible prim or anything like that. Nothing shows up as a transparency. I've seen tiny furries in the store before, so I've looked everythere that one could be. I've looked in the floor and under the floor and I can't see anything.

I've had ghosts before but they've always been visible. Any ideas?

My radar and map have been out of sync the last few days with neither one matching reality. Maybe that is it?

Possible, but the rest of the names that it shows are here. It's just that one that I can't see. And it does pick it up, because it changes my distance from it when I move. I.e. SL is delivering the information about it to the radar.

Reminds me of that old rhyme:

'As I was going down the stair,
I met a man who wasn't there.
He wasn't there again today,
I wish that man would go away!'

LOL. My last line would be, "I do hope that he's come to stay". :)

He shows on the map and mini-map, so it's not the radar that's at fault. And he's still here.

There was someone earlier saying they'd been logged out but the system was still showing them as logged in, I wonder if it's something like that?

It could be. If he's still here after the football highlights, I'll have a word with help.

Uhm... have you tried to send him an IM...? (I'm guessing your radar does show you the avatar name, right?)

I've been seeing a number of avs, maybe bots, stuck underground lately which is kind of weird. I did move to the edge of a sim and that might explain it, but I thought I've seen it other places too.

Does your visitor show up as a "V" on the mini-map?

What is a radar? Is it like my glasses that tell me when an AV is within 100m or is it something more?

I did try IMing him, but I got no reply.

I've had the sim restarted, so it's clear now.

Avs can get stuck at 0,0,0 sometimes - that's underground - or it used to happen anyway, but I donlt think you can get an av below ground in normal circumstances. The mini-map showed a dot - not a chevron - so I was standing right where the av was registered.

Radar scans for avs within 96m (the max range), which sounds like your galsses. Mine displays them on my HUD.

Something is definitely not right, when I go to about land I'm not getting the current location, I'm getting the location I was previously at.

Ghosted avies used to be pretty common a while back. Then you could see them, the last crop all seem to be invisible. They used to claim a server restart would fix it, but I have seen a couple survive server updates? The best bet is to IM the person, and have them return to the same sim, and that seems to make things right once again with the cyberverse

The sim restart fixed this one.

I had the strangest experience like this once...I crashed out of SL. In Skype, my fiancee tells me I am still there, ghosted. Once I logged back in, I actually came face to face with myself....the ghosted version finally disappeared after awhile...but it was really spooky feeling.

It could be a "bot" who stopped sending AgentUpdates mid-fall. The reported position and velocity would never change, which would cause viewers to see the avatar fall through the ground and never stop, and the avatar's actual physical presence could be anywhere.

Hehe the same thing drove me crazy at my local sandbox, i was standing on the ground and the mini map showed 2 Avs below me moving about. Over a few days 1 or 2 dots would appear and i would cam under the world trying to find out who the poor sod was with the bugged avatars, as nothing showed on my radar.

After mentioning it to the land owner, i was told the mini map doesnt display the icons right when avatars are up high. I went for a flight straigh up and sure enough they were working on a platform just over 4000m up.

So untill the SL mapping gets updated in line with hte new building hights, you can expect to see this more.

Same thing happened to some girl on the road in front of my house. Both radar and visitor tracker picked her up, and pegged her location to being right on the asphalt. Minimap also showed her dot there, but there was nothing at all there. For a week i watched the dot never move, leave, or log out and come back. Finally I IMed her... apparently she had been doing her merry little SL thing in another part of the grid for that week, unaware that part of her presence was stuck in this sim, but she had been crashing a lot more since she had been here. TPed her back, ghost removed itself, she stopped crashing, and all was fine with the world. Oh, then went and closed the still-open restart ticket with a "never mind, I took care of it" comment lol.

That's interesting. I had the sim restarted, thinking that the person may not be able to log in, but it seems they carry on as normal. Even so, if the crashes are related, it was good to get it dealt with.
