How to distribute ONE OFF items to Group members?

Is there a way to distribute items to an entire group of people (my group members in this case) without necessarily using Group notice? The reason being that I would like to give my members more valuable items from my shop as a reward for their loyalty. The problem with group notice is obviously that it sits on on the log for 2 weeks. So anyone can just join the group, grab the gift and leave the group during that period. I currently have close to 140 members and growing. Is there a way I could drop items in their inventory without having to open their profiles one by one *gasps*?

I'm a member of SL TV and they regularly "give" items directly to me (LM, magazine etc). I don't know how they do that. Then again, use Subscribe o Matic so maybe it works differently? I'd appreciate your help.

Can't you delete the notice after 48 hours?

I wasn't aware that you could delete notices. Can it be done?

I think Silent Sparrow's new method is an interesting one. Open group membership is closed for the duration of each two-week notice while the gift is available, then re-opened (and any 'offline' requests to join are then added) once the gift is no longer in past notices. Then, just before the next gift is released to the group, open membership is closed again, etc.

subscribe o matic allows you to send the items to the folks and you can turn off the ability for anyone to get items left on your subscribe o matic server via the history on the kiosk
or after you send it you can simply remove it from your server

there is no way that I am aware of to delete notices, would be nice if we could

Interesting business-related threads lately :)

What I have begun doing is using a script. It is a "group only" script which allows only those who are members of your group to purchase the item.

Simply package the item and set it for sale of L$0 and then send out the group notice telling them where to TP to to get this item. This way, only those in the group will get the notice and then you can delete the free item box when their time to grab it is up. Of course this will not stop group members from telling their friends to join but if you can not delete group notices, this could be an option for you.

I have a pretty cheap ($L100) group only vendor here:

I already have group vendors at my shops giving out gifts as incentives for people joining the group. But I would like to send out new items which are not free to members as rewards for being part of the group.

That is a great feature Subscribe O Matic has. Wish normal groups could do the same. The thing with Subscribe O Matic though is that they're not visible on the profile and I haven't figured out how to leave a group using that system.

Girlspeedo, how much of a problem is it if, for two weeks while the notice is up, people can join your group to get the freebie?

At worst, you hand out a few more freebies than otherwise, to people who leave the group after getting the goodies. But how many people are likely to do this? If they aren't in the group already how likely are they even to find out that there is a time-sensitive freebie waiting for them if they join now?

The worst that could happen might not be worth the trouble of trying to prevent it, especially if it ends up making it harder for your regular group members to get the freebie.

And, at best, you get a few new members of your group, when they realize that by being in your group they get access to the nice freebies you send out.

One group I'm in, the creator closes the group and hands out the freebie personally. Subscribe-o-matic or hippoGROUPS would make such a task easier, and eliminate the need for an inworld group slot anyway.

Yes, you made a great point. And that's indeed what I've been doing so far and the world didn't fall apart. But I guess as a content creator, you do naturally want some control over the products you send out to a mass group. Hence the enquiry. And from the sound of it, there isn't any alternative other than switching to Subscribe O Matic which I'm not planning to do at this point.

The one thing that I would like to point out about deleting notices or using the subscribe-o-matic feature of not allowing anyone to retrieve the item via history: There is an issue with both SL group notices AND subscribe-o-matic notices of not always getting to everyone, and with subscribe-o-matic notices sometimes being delivered, but not the actual attachment -- and no it is not a "busy mode" thing as I never use that.

Therefore, I check the the notice history of all of my SL groups every time I log in and sometimes during my inworld time. I also carefully monitor a lot of my favorite subscribe-o-matic groups, going to the store often, so that I can check the notice history there (if only there was some way for me to track what subscribe-o-matic groups I belonged to).

I really really hate the stores that use subscribe-o-matic and I click on the history and it tells me that the owner does not allow attachments to be redelivered. I have a tendency to either leave those groups or just not pay very much attention to them as I would many of my other groups.

I have been offering monthly Group Gifts for a few months now.

I use a script that I wrote myself that delivers the item when a Group Member (wearing the group Tag) Touches the box.

It checks to make sure it's the valid month (i.e. August's group gift will expire on Sunday), that they are wearing the Tag *and that they have not already received the gift*. So each member can only pick up the gift once, and as it delivers on Touch, there's no need for Debit Permissions.

I have noticed that people might join just to get the gift, but I have made the group Invite-only and use a scripted invite system, so that minimises any issues there.

Overall I think it's an advantage to group members, and I have found I make more "valuable" items (often 'exclusives') because of it.

If you'd be interested in the script, let me know and I'll make it more user-friendly and box it up for sale ;-)
