This isn't a recommendation--I don't have this card--but maybe a little more detail to help others make more informed suggestions. As I read the motherboard specs, it seems to have an Athlon 64 processor, VIA K8T800 Pro chipset, and an AGP 4x/8x slot. Just snooping through newegg, I found a card based on the Radeon HD 3850, (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102730), that on the surface looks like it's about as much as one can get from an AGP slot.
Now, we really need others with experience using this card, and using it for SL (and ideally with a similar CPU and chipset configuration). ATI has had its share of problems with OpenGL drivers, but I don't know if this board is particularly affected (and nVidia has problems, too, just not quite as dramatic right now). One other important question to help others respond more informatively: What operating system? (If Linux, as much as I'd want to, I still just can't recommend ATI. Someday, maybe.) [Edit: Might be good to mention price range... and to consider that with some care. An AGP card isn't going to move to a new computer, so whatever video upgrade you make with this machine is a kind of short-term investment.] _____________________

I have that card, but it's the PCI-E version and I have 2 of them in SLI. I have upgraded my system twice since I bought them and I still use them in SL no problem (now that the viewer supports them).
Being yours is an AGP system I can only say get fastest you can find in AGP cards, though I would recommend staying with NVidia for SL. Personally, I would try to find a higher end card, maybe in the 7xxx series in AGP. Any more and I'd be looking to upgrade the rest of the system first, getting away from DDR/AGP and adding more power. |

Even the Revision 2.0 A8V motherboard is AGP 8x graphics.
http://event.asus.com/a8v/ The A8N is the PCI-E big brother. Would recommend more memory along with that new vid card... the FX cpu should handle it fine (2.6Ghz.. single core? fx55? if so thats a collectors item) |
