Making shorts on an Sl template is tricky because you get that inner thigh drag. Resulting in a weird smear, which resembles something icky. People do one of two things, make the shorts longer, or do that fine line under the "bits", that turns out looking like crotchless panties.
SO does anyone out there have any cool tips or tricks for avoiding these issues?

No tips, but to encourage a redesign of the avatar mesh to avoid this stuff in the future, go here: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-3432and vote for the issue.

The smudge or texture difference when I experience this has to do with some line or smudge issue I have done in the template. The best personal solution I found is do a solid color over entire template layer even on outside of template then make it transparent enough to see the template underneath then add details like wrinkles etc away from the lines or experiment with what shows where to get idea how the templates work. When I am done making the various layers I remove the main template. Then upload it. I am no expert, but this is what I figured out through my "experiments"
