Greetings,

I'm having a problem with my avatar suddenly levitating for no good reason in the most embarrassing situations. I will be standing somewhere minding my own business and I usually start walking in place and then I am a few feet off the ground doing a horizontal bop. I really hate it.

Please, can someone help me?

Probably part of that great big gravitational challenge that is a daily part of SL. Maybe much like the trouble you can get into "standing up" from somewhere, or walking through floors when not quite rezzed.

Yesterday I got my head stuck in a ceiling and flapped around there for quite some time before I go loose.

Fortunately, the people I was with did not collapse in hysterical laughter.

Umm, right guys?

I started hovering yesterday for no reason. Just floating up. I checked and "fly" was still off. Very odd. Also, when I stood up from a chair last night I ended up walking in place for a while before I finally stopped and stood still. None of this was under my control.

Sounds like you have a case of lag. Do you walk off into the air through walls and perhaps terrain and have no response to keyboard input?

If so, it's a lag thing. there is no cure.

No lag when it hit me, and made me float up. I wasn't even trying to move when I started floating up for no reason.

Well, I'm certainly not saying it isn't lag, but people around don't seem to be effected the way I am, so it may be something else.

Thanks for the responses so far.

I've seen this before, when a sim is starting to lose it - either a bug or lag weirdness.

You might also want to try turning on highlight transparent in the View menu and see if there's some invisible object pushing you up. That and check bumps/pushes under the (IIRC) Help menu.

A megaprim above the 20x20x0.5 tends to cause this kind of bug if it's not set phantom. It doesn't always do it, just sometimes.

This has happened to me in the past week. No one has been around at the time. I was on my own sim on property that I only had access to at the time, and there was very little if no lag at all.

It went on for several minutes, long enough for me to have a converstation with the concierge group about it finding that no one else that was logged in there had heard of such. I know that when physics are disabled on the sim you will float in the air. But this was not the case.

I was being pushed up into the air and could not go back down. If I teleported home or to another destination I would arrive there and immediatley be sent skyward.

It eventually stops on its own. It happens spontaneously. Maybe we ticked off the same sim god? Let's get together and compare notes! or maybe just have tea. :o

Well that's my experience. Just so you know you are not the only one having similar issues.

The thing that is really odd is that it seems to be happening only to me. I am usually in a group of avatars and I'm the only one floating. someone said "it's your AO", well I can turn the AO off in mid-flight and I remain floating, I just don't look as good (noob). It's just a few feet off the ground, and if I press the forward arrow my AO goes in to "landing mode", so I think my AO thinks I was flying, which I was to a certain extent.

/me sighs

Oh.. Try detaching your AO then attaching it again. I've seen my ZHAO (I and II) sometimes get confused and do my 'landing' animation for a second every time I move or turn or do just about everything. A quick detach then attach fixes it up, until the next time it happens.

can be caused by certain scripts on attachments as well excite stuff.

if you keep floating to infinity it is the sim loosing it and it requires a re start this used to happen on my sim all the time and not to everyone. and most the time will start when standing from a prim or pose ball. when it happens pull up and view stats and see what the Sim FPS and Time dialation is I bet its below 0.99TD ;) and jumping around

Speaking of that, it seems that it happens more often on unusual terrain, beaches (sand) seems to be a major contributor. But it occurs in other situations as well.

This happened to me a lot. It made me look like I was falling with my arms frantically waving every time I TP'd anywhere. I gave up on that AO, because I couldn't figure out how to fix it. I have a better one now, and it hasn't happened again.

I have actually had this happen to me at the hangout a lot lately. I'll be lounging on the couch and the next thing I know I'm a ways up in the air -- still in the same lounging pose. A quick stand and sit again and all is well. I just write it off to SL trying to keep me on my toes.

seems to be happening alot more lately for random reasons in random regions... sit or resit seems to clear it. it'll also happen if someone drops a hollow or cut prim over you or if you're in the path of the cut hollow part of a moving one (normal or mega doesnt seem to matter much) and just a heads up LL isn't sure whether a megaprim floor is any more harmful to sim ecology than one the same size made of 10m prims, but to be safe make sure cut sides are out of the way of normal trafic when possible if you build with them

I think it's usually a different phenomenon when you're seated than when you're not. For sitting, the first thing to suspect is an AO. There are also some elaborate, timed animation sequences that can make this happen if the next animation doesn't activate (e.g., isn't yet downloaded to the client, or serious lag conditions) when the previous one is stopped--especially if the animations themselves offset the avatar vertically.
