So far, it's fairly clear that very few residents have any faith in, or support for, the identity verification scheme that has been introduced.

So how can Linden Lab show us that they believe in, and trust that they are doing the right thing?

Verify themselves.

When we see Philip, Robin, Jeska, Torley, Pathfinder, Zee and the other 'senior Lindens' - if not all of them - with 'identity verified' on their profile, we can see that they really believe they are doing the right thing here.

Until then... it's clear that they don't.

They might well say "well we know who we are, and we can prove it, so we don't need to verify".

But can't we all say that?

If anything, Lindens should always be held to a higher standard than residents. So let's see them take the lead and prove to us that they trust the system they have introduced.

Until then ... we can be totally justified in treating the system with the contempt it deserves.

No self-respecting, neo-yuppy, anarchist, open-sourcer, moguls, with firesale dreams would fall for such a scheme.

Information displayed in Linden profiles is somewhat untrustworthy, don't you suppose?

Well a good test would be for a Linden who is based outside their native country to try and verify.

Where is Jack from? I'm sure he told me he was British based, but I'm not sure if he's British.

Yes, who are these unverified alleged Lindens, anyway? For all we know, they could be dastardly disguised aliens infiltrating us from Entropia, or some terrible place like that. C'mon, Lindens, verifying everybody means verifying EVERYBODY!

In the meantime, will my FIC tin foil hat also protect against false Lindens?

I thought only you yourself can see it in your profile whether you're verified anyway....

Not at the moment Alyx, we're all unverified according to the profiles in the release candidate viewer. However they have said that will be the case, I'm not sure what the thinking behind that is as they've never hidden payment info status.

supposedly that is how it will be

I think if they are going to hide verification they should also hide payment info information

the parcel flags can take care of it

but do we really need for other residents (especially malicious ones) to see that we have some kind of payment info on file AND have used it (sure if they see us in the forums that is a dead giveaway, but at least in world it should be hidden)

and I think they should make the forums open to all, not just payment info on file
(next thing we know, only verifieds will be able to use the forum

Right now, scripts can see that info, too. I suppose it might be useful for skybox security systems or something, but I'll guess it's mostly used by merchants for marketing analysis now. (I don't actually care one way or another about this one, but making the verification info public would seem unhelpful.)

[Edit: Doh! Forgot the main point I was gonna make here: The scripted skybox security thing is a thorny problem for age-verification. One wouldn't really want scripts to see stuff you can't get from profiles, since then everybody would just get a script. But without it, there's no way to really prevent unverified avatars from visiting what should be restricted content above the banline limit. So... do we really want all those spammy skyboxes back down on the ground so they can comply with the intent of restricted parcels? Dunno how this is really supposed to work.]
