I have found myself explaining the difference between what is required to get onto an adult sim (IE Zindra) vs getting to a parcel that has been set to only allow age verified accounts to access it. I was thinking of writing up a notecard that I could hand out instead, but thought maybe someone already had. Anyone know of such a thing?

Lots of people are confused, sim/parcel owners included!

Feel free to use this:

ADULT CONTENT AND YOU!

Where's the naughty stuff I've read about? It's here, young avatar...but you must know the secrets of how to find it. Read on, and learn wisdom...

In order to search for adult content, you must be "Account Verified". You can do this in EITHER of two ways.

1. Have "Payment Information on File". That is, go to the Second Life website, log in, click "Account" and then "Update Billing Info". Give them a credit card number or a verified PayPal account.

OR

2. Age verify, using the third party age verification process provided by Aristotle. Go to Account, then the link for Age Verify. You will have to give them part of your Social Security number, your drivers license number, or one of the other acceptable forms of identification.

After doing one or both of the above, log on to Second Life and click Edit/Preferences/General. Check the boxes saying that you want to access Mature and Adult content.

To find Adult places using the Search feature, you also need to check boxes in the Search window.

"But I still can't get to the place I want to be. It says I'm not age verified".
Some landowners have set their parcels to admit Age Verified residents only. This is NOT the same as having a region that is set to an Adult maturity rating, and restricting access in this fashion does NOT permit the landowner to have Adult Content on their parcel. Some landowners do not realize this. You can talk to them, or even give them this notecard. However, whether or not to limit parcel access is their choice. If they choose to continue to restrict access, then you must either comply, or find someplace else to visit.

"But I AM Age Verified, and I STILL can't get in!"
The age verification system is known to make mistakes. Try going through the verification process a second time. If you still can't get in, then you and the land owner should submit a support ticket to Linden Lab.

"What IS Adult Content?"
Linden Lab defines "adult content" as "photorealistic pictures of nudity" (by which they mean pictures of naked people from Real Life), or "explicit sexual activity" that is "publicly available or advertised". In other words, it's OK to have a sex bed in your own home on Mature land. It's OK to have a furniture store that sells sex beds, or a strip club, IF they do not use any of the "banned" terms in their advertising. It's NOT OK to have an escort club, or a strip club with sex beds upstairs, or a store that sells sex equipment AND ADVERTISE it, UNLESS you're on an Adult region. It's OK to have a public nude beach, but NOT OK to equip that beach with sex poseballs.

It's all very confusing. Even the Lindens get confused, and if you get a warning or suspension for something you feel is within bounds, be sure to appeal it.

You can find the exact wording issued by LL by starting at the following link. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Adult

Good one, except that I don't like the term "Account Verified". Is that LL's term? If not, I'd prefer "having Adult Access". Just a tiny bit of semantics, of course. "Account Verified" sounds too much like it would apply only to PIOF or PIU, and doesn't include the word "Adult", which is a very important factor.

"Do you have adult access?" -- pretty clear what that means, even if you haven't read the notecard.

"Are you Account Verified?" or "Is your account verified?" -- I could interpret that different ways and would have to ask for clarification.

I propose:

Age Verified = just what it says, having gone through the age verification process
PIOF/PIU = matches what's in your profile
Adult Access = TRUE if either of the above is true (and you've checked the proper checkboxes to make it actually work)

Yes, unfortunately, "Account Verified" is what LL calls it. I think they have also called it "Adult Verified" a few times, but that probably got even more confusing as to what it really meant.

That is why Lindal tried to make it clear in her post that "Account Verified" was accomplished in one of two ways.
