On Nov. 30, I purchased a $3800L object from a vendor inworld. Oops..already a need to backtrack. I TRIED to purchase a $3800L object from a vendor inworld. The vendor gladly accepted my Lindens, sucked them from my account, then spit back a script error. I grumbled, growled and right clicked the vendor to see if I could figure out what the problem was. The bottom line is that the script was set to dispense a different version of the product than was loaded. No problem, right? Contact the owner, explain the situation, and get the product. I load up the People search, and....no profile! I searched again. STILL no profile. So I contact Live Help. I was advised that the resident had "probably" been suspended due to some violation and was asked to return to the vendor (I still hadn't left) and file an AR. I did so. Fast forward to yesterday. After hearing nothing, I returned to the vendor--still inworld and still happily accepting Lindens. I again search for the owner, and still no profile. Back to Live Help. Now I'm told that the owner of the vendor is still not "in world" and that my best bet would be to submit a ticket. :: sigh :: I did so. Here's my report, with the reply: "Tried to purchase "xxxxxxx" for $3800L from a vendor. A script error said that the script was set to give out version 2.1, but the object in the vendor is 2.0. I tried to contact the owner, but found no profile. contacted live help and found that for reasons unable to be disclosed, the member wasn't ON SL (perhaps a suspension). I was advised to go to the vendor and file an AR, which I did. I heard nothing. Tonight, I checked and the vendor is still there, able to take Lindens from the NEXT unsuspecting customer. SLURL: http://slurl.com/secondlife/xxxxxxx. I would truly like my Lindens back. If this member HAS been suspended, why is she still permitted to take money? Why wasn't the vendor dealt with when I filed the AR?" Reponse: "Hello, For privacy reasons, these are things I can't discuss with you. I will not confirm not deny any information about another resident. Should you be able to contact them later on, you may take this matter up with them." AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. So let me get this straight.....a member is suspended, leaves a faulty vendor inworld to suck Lindens, and NOTHING is done??? Color me CONFUSED! Is this standard policy? Has anyone else here been in a similar situation? Any suggestion for recouping the Lindens?

Ugh. That is frustrating. Is the vendor in a mall or on land owned by someone whose profile does show in search? If it is, I would contact them, explain the situation, and ask about taking down the vendor. I doubt that will recoup your L$'s, but you might be able to prevent others from losing money in the same way.

Does the owner's profile come up when you edit the vendor and look under the General tab? You should see two buttons: profile of creator and profile of owner. This should bring up the owner's profile. Failing that, try searching in the first 'All' tab, rather than the People tab. Often, even deleted accounts will still show in the All search for a while, even when they're no longer findable in People search.

Thanks...the land belongs to the vendor owner. Grrr. I did go back and try Skell's suggestion (right clicking the vendor and checking for her profile that way) and her profile does come up (thanks). I have sent an IM, but I'm not holding my breath. Even if she has her IMs going to an email, I'm not sure how she'd get back inworld to refund (assuming she wanted to). I'm not as angry about the $L as I am about the fact that the powers that be couldn't just take down the vendor. They confiscate land, suspend and delete accounts, and, in general, wield a rather sharp sword.
If an account is suspended, do funds from sales still go to that person's account, or are they somehow rerouted into Linden coffers??

it is possible that the person is not suspended (nothing was told to you to confirm that)
and that maybe they just have their profile hidden (for whatever reason)
I wish you luck with this
(for the record, LL doesn't get involved in resident to resident situations which is what this is)

I've HEARD of issues like this with LL support, but not had them myself. Every time I hear a new one it seems the responding Linden only reads far enough down into the ticket text to find a line or two that matches one of their canned responses, lays that on you, then dismisses the whole issue as resolved. I've found that I tend to get the response I want when I don't play junior detective and only give the basic details. Something about a wordy, story-like report seems to get it lumped in with the zillions of false or whiny ones they get, and it gets dismissed quickly. Monotone, barely-english seems to work well.

Dana, caught your response before the edit and had to giggle.... Thanks for the feedback. Took your initial advice and dropped a notecard...and seriously considered reopening the ticket, worded exactly as you had posted.

I hope it works out for you. Yeap when buying products from users it sort of buyer beware. LL only protects itself from credit card fraud not the users transactions with each others in world from what I have observed, rarely will get involved in any matters like that.

OK I just skimmed all that but got the gist. I have a friend who recently bought like 10,000 lindens for I think $30, less than the normal rate. OK I forget exact figures but they were a little cheaper than from Linden labs...
Thing is, somehow the company she dealt with, a 3rd party, was scamming people and my friend got all the lindens she bought taken away which put her 9500 L$ in the hole. Now she is trying to get her RL money back from the company, I have not heard the word on that yet... I guess the company had bought tons of lindens with a stolen credit card and were re-selling them... and anyone who bought lindens lost them...
Yeah even with buying Linden dollars, make REAL sure you go thru a reputable source cause there are scams running...
For the record I bought lindens off this site, just 2000, and had not problems.

Lols, yeah I hadn't considered that the person might have just had their profile set to not show in search (instead of being banned). I word all my tickets that way because it just seems to work. I can imagine sorting through all the "Help me! so-n-so called me a weenie!" reports, and that finding a short, concise one I could act on would be great.
