Waaa! What Happened To My Land?

Just logged on after several days of inactivity because of being away for the holiday and when I rezzed into my home, I'm under water. Ummm, what?

Look around and everything around me is above my head, all my lawn furniture, treees, fountains, etc. I realize the land has been changed, totally now below sea level or; whatever.

My group is only my alts and I so nobody else would have gone in, unless somehow my account has been hacked. Also, unlikely since the only person I live with is Ghosty and I'm pretty sure he has no reason to mess with my head :p However, I'm changing my passwords just in case somehow someone else managed to get in (again, unlikely but you never know and why they would only terraform, is even more puzzling).

I'm assuming it's one of SL's many annoying glitches but I've now logged on and off several times and it remains the same. So, I'm just curious if anyone else has had any recent issues with this.

Any chance of my land coming back to where it was or if I'm now stuck having to call back Rioko who did such a fab job of terracing my property and begging her to re-do it for me again?

If your land is Estate (as opposed to mainland), the Estate owner has the possibility to change the height of the water level away from 20m. If this is the case (water level > 20m), talk t your estate owner and ask him to reset the water level height.

Also, the Estate owner could have uploaded a different island height profile. Again, talk to him/her and ask what happened. In that case you need to re-terraform the land to match the layout.

Or buy a wetsuit and learn bubble language to talk to the fish. :p

*scratches his head*

Is only your parcel changed or the adjacent ones, too?

If the former, either someone with land modify permission on your land went on a terraforming rampage or you have some scripted device in-world which tried to beautify the environment.

If also other parcels are changed, maybe a drunk Linden came by or some data changed on a server (e.g. they restored some old land height data).

However, on the ML it's a strange case for sure.

Elora, in your land settings, did you allow *everyone* to edit terrain? Go to World - > About Land - > Options - > and uncheck Edit Terrain! Maybe someone had a bit of fun with your parcel. Unfortunately since you're on mainland, you can't ask for a rollback but you can prevent this in the future. Good luck!

Did you relog a time or two? I logged in once and found myself below water also, but it was some odd glitch. A relog had things back to normal.

One time, I logged on to find that my (mainland) parcel and the parcel next door were the only builds visible on the entire sim. The land and builds on the sim next to us were GONE. Just a big void empty nothing.

I submitted a support ticket with a picture and come to find out our sim was broken. They fixed it. All back to normal.

I guess no one else noticed or if they did, didn't know what to do about it.

It sounds like you may have set the land to allow anyone to terraform it, so Rioko could do it for you. If you then left it with that setting after Rioko was done, then anyone who came across it could have altered it again.

once I walked out back of my shop and the whole next sim was nothing but water, turns out it was broken. Everything came back after they fixed it.

I have been having problem for months at least once a week I login and I see
water nothing rezzed, no one on friend list answers, I figure I have crashed.
Sometimes it takes numerous logins and hours before things return to normal.
Usually though eventually things return to normal.
Usually I can tell for sure that I haven't been able to login correctly and crash is I cannot sit on anything.
One time though a mainland shop I had rented half of everything on sim vanished something went terribly wrong with the sim.

No, you did a great job.

Nobody near me changed their land. Ghosty now owns a portion of my land as his art gallery (I donated it to him) and next door, they are never around anymore. In back of me, same thing.

I checked my settings, and my edit terrain was "set to group" so nobody could have done anything to it, unless someone managed to hack into one of my Alt accounts. And why they would just muck around with my land is anyones guess, but there you have it.

I also logged in and out several times just to make sure it wasn't some kind of glitch. No go.

In the end, I chalked it up to either some weird SL oddity, a tsunami in the ocean, or someone managing to get into my account (which freaks me out). I changed the passwords in all of my accounts to be on the safe side and began to terraform the area, rather poorly I may add.

Rioko - if you ever get some free time and want to try recreating those lovely terraced areas, feel free. Just let me know and I'll put you in my group again :D

Oh you mean it isn't like riding a bicycle? :p

I should be in too, at some point. I'll add you to the group again, take up the landscaping back there regardless and shoot you off the landmark. Take your time, no pressure. Whatever you can manage would be highly appreciated.

I do wish everyone knew about this. More than once, while working on a new parcel, I've accidentally grabbed a bit of an adjoining parcel, and raised or lowered it. VERY embarrassing.

I do try to put everything back the way it was. But it would be better for everyone if they realized, as you suggest, that they need to uncheck Edit Terrain. Surely no one would purposefully enable strangers to change their land!
