I'm not one to really attend live music events due to the tons of lag.. However I did happen to catch one this weekend.. and to say the least disappointed..
There is a band "Covering" a popular band. By covering they are just dressed like the band and typing in (most likely Copy and Paste from a notecard) the Lyrics of the songs. Is this what all the hype is about that I'm missing?
I did see Blue4U Nowicka and I know that was live and original music..
How can someone pay for people to type lyrics? I heard the charge for this was like 10,000?...
My question is this. Does anyone have a list of bands that are really live?

The "real" live music scene is alive and well. Chances are if you see something with a well-known band's name (even if it says tribute band) it will be some people in look-alike avs playing some recorded live show.
But there are loads of musicians that perform live out there. And some are quite good. What genre are you interested in?

Taylor, I know the group you're speaking of, and yeah, it's somewhat disappointing.
If you want live performances, there are multiple groups out there that advertise them, and many, many talented performers. Don't judget the whole lot by the one "tribute" band you saw. Search "live music" in group search and pick the one with the most members, for the life of me I can't remember its name right now. You'll receive a lot of spam, I'm afraid, but you'll see some terrific entertainment.

There are few *bands*, mostly due to the practical difficulties of setting it all up and streaming. I know of Virtual Live Band who ninjams live from spread all over the world (which seems very much in the SL spirit), and Schesis, who appears very rarely, with an actual full band setup.
Most live musicians are of the "one man/woman with a guitar or piano" sort, though lots and lots of variations abound. Some "keep it pure", others use sequenced or pre-recorded backing tracks. Are you looking for "single acts", too, or just bands?

I'll look into that Honeybear.. Thank you...

But this just blew my mind... Any of the "locals" in SL that you reccomend would be great.. I won't fall for a "Nickelback or ahem KISS" ever again! lol

Oh, you'll quickly get a list of personal favorites. I've jotted down some notes for myself to remember here: http://talirosca.wikidot.com/musicIt is not reviews; merely notes for myself when I go, "what was that name..."

I won't fall for a "Nickelback or ahem KISS" ever again! lol Sojurn Rossini...lives in Oklahoma, has an incredible voice...sings a wide variety of music. Noma Falta...rock and country, her voice makes me tear up. She's a real sweetheart too. Virtual Live Band...incredible performances. Zak Claxton - great voice, great songs, great guy. Von Johin - blues at it's finest. And another terrific guy. SRV4U Conacher - again, blues, but more electric Another one...Dexter - shoot, can't think of his last name. Incredible performer. These are just a few that I hired for my club, and who I still go to see when I have time. I love live music in SL, and this list includes some of the finest, but the omission of any name doesn't preclude them from being great.

At one place I heard a guy, I can't remember his name but he owns a biker sim with a club etc...anyway I heard him somewhere else. He did use a recording to back him up but he played lead guitar and sang the songs himself, it was pretty awesome I have heard truly live music only a few times, but I enjoyed it. I have been to a lot of 'tribute' lagfests, none where they typed all the words...even tho it is a 'tribute' it is kinda fun.

It's very important to note that just because a performer uses pre-taped backup vocals, it doesn't mean that you aren't getting a live performance. Sometimes, you just need backup singers to make a piece sound good, and what are you going to do, invite 3 backup singers to come hang out in your livingroom with you?

Plus, sometimes you just can't do a song without a little help. I've heard people use rhythm tracks behind them as well, while they played and sang.

Yea back up tracks would be welcome to make it sound better. But if the vocal are Live then it's good. But just typing lyrics to a stream is lame to me, for one thing.. Not everyone is hearing the stream at the same time..

That is Dexter Ihnen, an Australian that walked away from a major label contract because they were pushing him in a direction he didn't want to go (if I remember correctly, and if that is true). I have the impression somewhere that he signed up with another label at some point. I've seen a ton. One of the fun things to do is see live performances (virtually live) of people you would more than likely not physically be able to see in real life (like Ope Beattie of Germany, and ack, there are people from Spain, Argentina, Italy, France, etc.). I think the opera singer was from Spain . . . or Portugal. You can find some quite good singers in there. Rather fun. I have some crowd issues and find small stuffy jazz clubs hard to stand in real life (which I know from personal experience, not assumption, wanted to flee from that club in New Orleans; also have trouble with huge non-stuffy, but packed places not playing jazz, also, of course, heh), so something like live music through second life is good for my nerves. That is when my stupid ears aren't acting up, but that is separate issue.

Yes, that's him, thanks Lexxi...I didn't have him at my club, but he's the only one on that list that didn't play it - I just couldn't afford the usual fee he commands.

Sat around waiting ages for it to start. 2 wrestlers came out, dressed up in their underpants as you would expect, they climb in the ring, the bell goes.....then nothing. Suddenly one of them types. "I grab Glorious Geoff in a headlock" "ooof" replies Geoff "Geoff wriggles out of the head lock and pushes Iron Mike into the ropes, catching him on the rebound with a drop kick" says Geoff "ooof" says Mike. and so it went on, just typed out a wrestling match without moving....that is until the crowd got restless and stormed the ring.
