Tonight I fell victim to the "rezzed it & lost it" dilemna. I dropped my AO HUD to add an animation and now it is totally lost or turned into a ghost prim. I've looked carefully both with scripted beacon on and with view transparent on, as well as normally. I can not find it anywhere. Tried relogging, clearing cache, all that. But my prim count is up by 7 which is the exact amount of that HUD.
Thankfully this has never been a huge problem to me in general... I've really lost very little in SL compared to some people, but it lead me to think... why don't more animators sell copiable-no transfer dances, poses, and animations. At least some of my animations were copiable, so it's not a total loss, but I have heard more than a few horror stories of people losing HUDS, chims, or dance bracelets in this same way and good quality dances are NOT cheap.
Why don't the animators... especially those of dances... either offer a perm choice or make them copy-no transfer knowing that disappearing inventory is an ongoing issue within SL?

Did you accidentally drag it onto the surface of an object and thereby have it go into the objects contents?
If you provide coordinates and the exact name of the missing object people might go take a look.

Hmm, I never thought of that possibility, but I don't think thats the case because my prim count is up exactly 7 from yesterday, which is the number of prims of that HUD. I was standing in my home on the second floor in my changing alcove. I thought I vaguely saw the look of a distorted prim (like when you see something REALLY close up) at the second I rezzed it, but as soon as I changed my view, I saw nothing.

omg... I just found it wedged between two prims of the walls!!! And thank you Suezanne because I did go back to check contents and that made me notice a slight gap where the rounded wall met the flat wall. On a whim, I moved the rounded wall back before adjusting it... and there was the HUD But this is sheer luck.. my question stilll stands.

heh too much greed to make them copyable. they want to make you buy multiple ones if you have a club with multiple dance balls or god forbid want to leave on in your house and have one in your personal dance ball.

Most of mine are sold copy/no transfer - the problems come when someone wants a refund and that can't be done because they cannot return a "no transfer" item. I will always give a choice though and price accordingly.

It's habit, mostly, and also that that is the default permission set when you upload. It could be convenient sometimes to trade and resell animations I suppose, and if you are going to give them as a gift then they clearly have to be transferrable, but these days, the convenience of _not losing it when there's an inventory problem_ rather overcomes that I would say.
I sell _everything_ copy/no-trans these days (I don't sell individual animations admittedly, but some of my products contain more animations than the average AO pack).
