I know I'm probably asking for the moon on this. I notice when I go into a store and focus my camera on an image it justs sits there staying blurry. I go get a cup of coffee, come back, and it's still blurry but all the stuff around it has downloaded. Now what I want to see is the thing the camera is looking at, but I'm spending a lot of time waiting for an entire store to rez. This can be a little embarrassing if I've keyed in "male skins" in search and of course get a bunch of hits with "female skins" because it contains the phrase I keyed, and I can't see what's in the store until I've made all the ladies there uncomfortable with my loitering.
It would save a lot of bandwidth if there were a setting to download first what the mouse is hovering over or something. I could look at a store directory then get out if it doesn't have what I need. There doesn't seem to be any logical order to how images download. It's just whatever is in your draw range whether you're looking at it or not? Is there something in the Client menu that can change this?

If you zoom in on an image by holding the alt key down - the viewer will prioritise that image for rezzing, so it should appear in a few seconds at the most.

I wonder if I have something set wrong in preferences. I'll do some experiments in world to see what is really happening.

Zoom in (mousewheel) Actually now i think about it, you might only just have to left click the image, but i naturally zoom in to confirm (to myself) that i have actually left clicked it... if that makes sense. Also - if you zoom in, then that image fills your screen, so i guess the viewer then doubly prioritises it for rezzing... but some of the techies might have a better explanation.

Hi. The combination is: s hold down Alt key and then left-click on the image you want to show. Also you can zoom in by using Alt + 0, instead of mousewheel and Alt + 9 to return the view to normal.

Alt left click seems to help. I've been in SL for months and months and never knew this!
It does help to use alt because some boxes you left click and it just cycles the images , especially texture vendors. This is going to save me a LOT of time. Thanks very much.

I've also wondered about this and found myself waiting around for the one thing I wanted to see. Thank you for posting this - learned something new! And Weston, I find it very sweet that you are a little embarrassed "loitering" in front of the ladies

Update. You have to be fast. I've still noticed some surrounding images loading faster than the one I'm focused on. I think if they've already started loading it's hard to turn the priority around or something. It's all very subjective, so it's hard to tell exactly.
Anyway, if it only feels like it's a little faster, that helps too.
Isabeau, I guess I'm easily embarrassed. 8-}

You don't need to actually focus on the image, just hover your mouse pointer over it and you'll see it load faster already.

Left click is "Touch" for a lot of prims, and activates a landmark or notecard giver or some other process.

Didn't know that holding down alt at the same time will keep the vendor image from going to the next image. One reason why dislike vendors, can't see image, can't speed up because clicking on told it to go to the next image, not load faster. So will have to experiment with this in world

If you get the debug menus up in the client you can press CTRL+SHIFT+3 to get a HUD of what's loading. If you hover your pointer over a texture it's entry in the HUD should go orange and jump to near or at the top of the list as a priority download. Sounds great.
But I also get "the one texture I'm interested in is the last to load" even with the mouse hover trick and zoomed up close. Sometimes .. when I'm bored enough .. I do a quick 360 turn of my avatar and when I get back to the texture it has magically finished loading or more likely has finally been updated with the completed texture. I'm thinking it's a bug. But I'm loosing the will to JIRA it. I'd rather they sorted grid stability, teleports / sim crossings, XML and actually listened to some the advice they get in SLDev rather than go ahead and bolt on new goodies we don't even know we need. (Take the next server side update as an example).
Having that texture load would be nice ... but ... sheesh ... where in the pile of Linden priorities is that one going to be? Take a guess. And why would I buy whatever it is anyway? It'll either be washed out by windlight, made obsolete by Havok4, fail to rez sometime, broken by server failures, be too explicit to leave in my home after ID gets introduced or appear in my backside after a teleport.
