When I put a region in my land store cart, it gives me two coordiantes (X, Y) how do I find that area in SL? i realize that at any time islands can move in and out of the area, I just want to know what is currently in area.

those coordinates do not work within SL that I am aware of. Just get an idea of what islands are around your potential chosen space and go from there. Its like a treasure hunt ! :D

As far as I know, there is no way to punch in some world coordinates and get a region name. You can do it the other way round though -- given a region name, you can get the world coordinates.

I'm kind of a noob, so this might be a "d'OH!" question... why do islands move in and out of an area? Aren't they clamped to a particular place on the map?

From my recent readings, it seems that the owner of an isle can pay to have it moved -or- when an additional island is purchased, request to have the old island moved to be adjacent to the new one.

Also, many months ago LL pushed to the side a ton of private islands/estates to make room for new mainland (what is now the three eastern continents).

http://www.tooskilled.com/sl/map.php?x=1000&y=1000

Replace the x and y values in the URL with the x and y values you want to see on the map... I haven't seen the land store, I don't know if it gives the coordinates in meters, or in regions, but if the x and y are in meters, you'll have to divide them by 256 before putting them in the URL

The part of this map API that lets you teleport to given coordinates seems to be broken, I don't know how to get something working without devoting a chunk of time to it, and I don't know whether this map can show you region names P:

The global coordinates *can* be teleported to, though. If you really ache to find out, you can send me the coordinates of a region you find and I'll try to get you a SLURL or something (:

But wait, can't you just ask them to move your region? XD

Not the most elegant solution, but:

https://cap.secondlife.com/cap/0/b713fe80-283b-4585-af4d-a3b7d9a32492?var=slRegionName&grid_x=XXX&grid_y=YYY

Replace the capped XXX and YYY with the global coordinates of the sim. If your browser offers a file download instead of displaying the result, save the file somewhere and open it in any text editor and you'll have the sim name.

(Use Day Oh's link to look around the void space and find the coordinates of the nearest sim)
