Can I Fish off my Dock?

I am SO excited & happy! Yesterday I bought my first piece of land in SL. It's a nice spot on the mainland that's 4096 of flat beach land with a couple palm trees & a cute lil dock. I don't build things - I SHOP! lol :) So soon I'll be hitting the stores to get a treehouse to put on my land, flowers, birds, etc., & making my little piece of SL paradise!

My question is - can I fish off my lil dock even tho my land limits only go out into about ankle deep water? And what do I need to fish in SL besides a 7 Seas Fishing Pole? Can you fish anywhere there's water in SL? Fishing tips from all you masterbaiters out there please? :)

You need the 7Seas server package in order to fish, but the depth of your water makes no difference. Actually, you don't even need water...you could fish in air if you wanted to, although it might look a bit odd.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

What Ann said. For 7seas fishing to work, you have to set up the server part. Then your fishing pole will work.

If you don't care about catching anything, just whip up a few poses and put them on your dock. :)

Oh..and I don't remember where I was. But one time, I saw a club that had turned their dance floor into a 7seas fishing spot.

Congratulations on your new land, Maggy!

As far as fishing on your own water, if you first fish someplace that has the 7Seas setup (which are a LOT of places, we even have one on our land) you catch other things besides fish called "salvage." Putting together certain salvage parts creates other useful items.

A certain combination of salvage parts will create a cool fishing boat that seats two and THEN will allow you to fish ANYWHERE, without having to be on an area with the 7Seas setup.

It's called the Personal Motorboat and the pieces you need to make one is here:

Have fun!

I think it would be a hoot to throw your line in 6" of water and catch an Orca.

I've seen a 7Seas setup in a city area by a little decorative pond. Being a city girl myself, I thought that was cute. But it would be funny to pull an Orca from it.

7 Seas isn't the only option, either. There's also the Neo-Realms system, which you can visit at the Hearts Enchanted sim (sorry, I don't have the SLurl available, as I'm not logged in), or go look at Yngwie Krogstad's profile, and find the Phoenix Rising fishing camp in my picks. If you have a Neo-Realms fishing rod, you can fish from anywhere on the grid where scripts are enabled, even without a fishing camp (with some limitations; for example if you're worried about your rod's score, you get fewer points if you're not at an actual camp). You can also rent one of their fishing camps, they have different packages depending on what you want and how much you're willing to pay to rent a fishing camp. I also personally like the fact that when there's a tournament, you can go wherever it's being hosted, sign up there, then go home and fish in the tournament from your own camp, if you have one. Tourneys are grid-wide, any Neo-Realms fishing camp is a valid place to fish in one.

LOL - after awhile I started a "catch & release" campaign. The fish clogged up my inventory too much. Now I just keep the ultra-rares or ones that I think are cute. (Did you know you can name your fish, wear it, and it will swim around your head? I love that.)

Also, as far as making your boat, I may have some of the pieces in inventory....going in world now to look and if I do I'll drop them on you.

Katat0nik has adorable custom merkats (not to be confused with meerkats) in her pond. I need to go back and catch more.
