Yes, Konnie.
Just d/l the other viewer version and save it in a different folder.
Then create a new shortcut on your desktop to the new (or older) SL viwer and you can run either, though not both at the same time (I think).
i've got Nicholaz, OnRez, 1.19.0.5, and a couple others all on my pc.

Have you tried playing around with your graphic's tab in your preferences?

Konnie, the following is a Notecard I got from someone in-world - think it was through NCI but can't remember positively. Anyway try tweaking. Just remember to save as separate sets of settings.
Incidentally I gave up on the current LL viewer and went over to the latest Nicholaz one as being more stable. That's worth checking out and again, you can set it up in a different folder and have it as an alternative.

Notecard courtesy of Caliah Lyon: (The blocks are illustrations. If you want I can send you the Notecard in-world so you can see the pics)
"These settings are tweaked for use with the current default SL client, as the old WL settings I have on my blog are now obsolete. This is based on the default midday setting with some tweaks so your avatar will look better with local lighting AND atmospheric shaders (no need to turn them off). It's recommended to use a very faint face lamp or none at all in public (consider it as doing the public a service that your face lamps won't be blinding anyone else on WL!). Note that the lighting is uniform no matter which direction you're facing. If you do opt to go without a face lamp you can raise the Ambient Intensity (I) value to compensate. I've set it to 0.67 here.

􀀅
􀀆

Recommended Face Lamp
􀀊􀀀

The Atmosphere Tab
This is largely to improve the quality of the horizon and has little bearing on the lighting itself, -except- for the Max Altitude, Density/Distance multiplier values. You can tweak the other settings to your satisfaction to get better skies.

􀀄
Blue Horizon: R: 0.12, G: 0.12, B: 0.16, I: 0.16
Haze Horizon: 0.09
Blue Density: R: 0.32, G: 0.59, B: 1.00, I: 1:00
Haze Density: 0.65
Density Multiplier: 0.18
Distance Multiplier: 2.0
Max Altitude: 188

Lighting Tab
I've set Red and Green values slightly higher to give the light a warmer "sunlit' tone, but you can make all RGB values equal for a whiter, more neutral light. If you want brighter light you can raise Ambient using the "I" (Intensity) slider. A range of 0.67-0.77 is recommended, combined with Scene Gamma of 1.08-1.22.

􀀃
Sun/Moon Color: R, G, B and I at 0.086
Sun/Moon Position: 0.000
Ambient: R: 0.67, G: 0.64, B: 0.63, I: 0.67 (raise I up to 0.70 for outdoor settings)
East Angle: 0.16
Sun Glow: Focus: 0.10 Size 1.75
Scene Gamma: 1.08-1.15
Star Brightness: 0.00

The Clouds Tab
The only difference with the clouds tab from any default preset you might have is the coverage. I've set it to low (exactly 0.13).
􀀂
Cloud Coverage: 0.13

Save this under a "New" preset. As always, you can fine-tune these settings to suit your particular preference :)

-Caliah Lyon"

Hope that's of help.

thaks so much.. i will try these settings and see if it helps.. i have went back to 1.19.0.5 and use the surrounding light to brighten up the avi.. if i turn surrounding light off in the 1.19.1.4 version.. it makes the landscape much better but my avi is really dark.. wish they would do something about that
