September metrics show 23 per cent of resident sessions in sl ended with either a viewer crash or a region crash. This of course doesnt even get into lag, freezes, failed TPs, missing inventory, yada yada. Granted that is a tad bit better than the August metrics, but if a service you provided totally failed 23 per cent of the time as well as partially failing a good bit of the rest of the time, would you blog brag about the 2 per cent improvement?

The overall crash percentage isn't all that telling, but a change in it is, so it doesn't seem too strange to me that they're focusing on that.

People who do crash tend to crash frequently. Overburdened sims also tend to be the very (over)crowded sims, so when they crash they take a lot of people with them, probably skewing the percentages a whole lot.

If you have 10 people where 7 don't crash at all, 2 crash once and 1 crashes 8 times you have a session crash rate of 50% even though only 10% has an actual problem.

Many times when I shut down SL normally (file, quit, I don't just close the browser) I get the "You have crashed" message. Does that get logged as a crash, even though it caused me no inconvenience in any way?

Like Avion, most of my client crashes occur while ending my sessions. It's a fair bet that if the client announces it has crashed, the server never sees a proper log out, and it gets recorded as a crash. I'd love to see the problem go away, but it does little to impact my enjoyment within SL.

I would not consider this a blog Brag.

LL are actually doing what everyone has been asking them to do and that is to communicate and talk or pass on information regarding the Virtual World we pay for.

I see this as a move forward in the right direction for LL, regardless of the 23 percent failure rate, there has to be a benchmark to work on, if this is 23 percent then thats something we can base the facts on every month when the new stats are released.
