mega prims, bots and lag?

Hello all :)

I have a little problem/question relating to the home of my full time avi.

Recently the sim has been laggier than usual and my partners crash rate has become intolerable. I noticed on the map a cluster of avis, they arrived around the time our problems started.

I flew up to investigate recently and I found a group of cloud avis (text only client?) on an invisible mega prim, with a mistitool box and a cloak around the whole lot.

I contacted the sim owner, this is very strange I thought. The answer was vague, friends I was told... they should have no effect on the lag.

The owner of the sim I am on has a business there also....these avis are constantly on the radar, and I can only assume they are to boost the search rating of the store.

That aside, my main concern is with the impact of the scripts and the mega prim and cloak on my happy SL. Tonight my partner, after numerous crashes, was forced to log on using a text client herself.

Any ideas about what is going on, and suggestions as to what I should do would be greatly appreciated. I have a great home and my landlord has always been there in the past to fix any problems and answer my questions. I don't wish to cause trouble here, but I don't know what to do.

Thanks.

I don't know if this helps, but FWIW, it's very unlikely that the lag nor (especially) the viewer crashes are in any way related to bots in a skybox outside drawing distance. (But: what does "cloak" mean in this context?)

My hunch is that your partner's machine is having problems, leading to the high crash rate. Do the crashes ever happen outside this sim?

It's almost certainly not a problem with megaprims.

Although some scripts sometimes lag sims, that's not as simple as it sounds, nor as likely as most folks think.

It's very hard to diagnose what's going on without visiting the site and watching the sim statistics.* Presumably the sim owner would be motivated to do that, too, but for an independent opinion you may want to see if you can recruit a volunteer to visit the sim, without publicly divulging which sim it is (so as not to cause possible trouble for the landlord).

Several of us independently observed that in another sim when a neighbor had their bot farm online. I am guessing that many agents in one sim is eating up server resources left and right (even with a cloud and no scripts, you chew up server resources the more agents are in a sim).

When I said 'cloak' I was referring to something that seems to be surrounding the platform. It is unseen, but as you pass through it you are reduced to the sum of your attatchments and all the clouds and their tags vanish, also the platform which is seen with show transparent dissapears. I am unable to see it or lock onto it to find out what it is, but there is something there shielding it from view.

Sounds like an invisiprim, not to be confused with a transparent prim. It tells the viewer to not draw anything with any transparency or non-prim avatar parts. Never heard of it hiding names, though.

How many bots are we talking about here? Like 5 or like 50?
