The instructions to set up the HUD say "...right-click on it in your inventory, then choose "WEAR".... The HUD will then appear at the bottom of your screen." No it won't. Nothing appears on my screen. But there's another option. That option reads "Attach to HUD", and it appears that the HUD referred to here is my screen. But when I click on that I get eight choices: Center2, TopLeft, Top, TopRight, Center, BottomRight, Bottom, BottomLeft. Only two of these work - Bottom and BottomRight. With the choice Bottom, The menu for the HUD appears and works fine, but the chat bar, whenever a message is on it (which is very very frequently), runs over the HUD and prevents you from seeing or using sliders and other controls.
Sob, sob, sob.

the quick and dirty: Put the hud on the bottom choice, right click the hud on your screen and edit. Use the colored arrow to move the display up to the top. Close the edit box. There is a more complicated fix for this. You'd wear the hud on the spot it's intended, and wear another hud on a different hud attachment point (such as CENTER). Right click and edit the second hud, then use your scroll wheel to shrink the whole display some. Once you do that, you would see the first hud playing hide and seek just out of your view, and click that (to switch the edit function to that hud), then use the colored arrows to move it to a position that when you finish editing, it would be in your field of view. If you do not wear a lot of huds though, the first workaround would suffice. (Edit) Torley has a great video about this very subject: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Viksbg-juw4

Like your avatar, your screen has attachment points. Any HUD can be attached to any of them, just as you can attach a prim shoe to your hand, if you want.
The HUD you bought has a default attach point that puts it somewhere out of sight...either it's rotated, or (more likely) is positioned beyond the edge of the screen.
Just use Attach to HUD and keep trying empty locations until you find one where you can see the HUD. Then right click it and select Edit. Use the editing tools to move and (if needed) rotate it into position on your screen.
